I have been teaching Japanese for over twenty years. I'm very flexible for all types of situations. My teaching experience includes a classroom setup, individual tutoring, personal or business oriented lessons. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced, I can prepare lessons for your specific needs. You'll be excited to speak new expressions in Japanese after each lesson. I have several students who have been taking my lessons for over 15 years and they can't be wrong!

Alex is a great Japanese tutor who has allowed me to learn Japanese at a comfortable yet rapid pace. He has increased my confidence when speaking, writing, listening to, and reading Japanese.
This is my 4th lesson with Mr. Alex Toshiaki. He is very knowledgeable and helps me understand fully each lesson. He keeps the lessons at a good pace for me and I enjoy learning Japanese with him.
My daughters are 10 and 7 and are both enjoying their Japanese lessons from Sensei (Alex). He's able to assess my girls and tailor his lesson plan to their personalities, all the while keeping them engaged and enjoying themselves. I highly recommend Alex for your tutoring needs.
Thank you so much for the encouraging comment Melissa! It's such a pleasure to tutor your daughters.
Alex is very easy going and nice. I immediately felt comfortable talking with him and he was very patient with my first-lesson anxiety.
We really appreciated that Alex Toshiaki took the time to review the material needed to make the most of the sessions. He was able to condense and concentrate on areas that needed improvement. He was prompt, patient and knowledgeable. We would highly recommend him.
Thank you Tina for your kind feedback! I find it very encouraging. I really enjoyed tutoring your son. I wish good luck to his future study.
Alex has taught my daughter how to speak more fluently and the basics of Japanese sentence structure and grammar. He also taught her new vocabulary and simple conversation dialogues.
Within 2 minutes of my daughter's first lesson Alex had her saying greetings in Japanese. The hour flew by and she's eager for the next one!
Alex is such a great tutor. He not only teaches my son reading, writing and speaking Japanese, he also prepares course work, includes homework assignments, and even suggests Japanese movies and shows to watch. I cannot believe how much my son is learning so quickly. Thank you.
I've been attending lessons with Alex Sensei for over a month now and it's been a great way for me to pick up my Japanese studies again after last studying in college more than 10 years ago.
He suggested a couple options for textbooks and I chose Genki, the same one I'd used in college, but a new and improved version. In addition to using the textbook, Alex Sensei keeps the lessons interesting with Q&A, role-playing, and listening challenges (humbling, but super interesting.)
I'm planning a trip to Japan next year and I'm confident that if I keep up with my Japanese lessons, Alex Sensei will help me get into good shape for handling travel situations and also having interesting conversations beyond basic greetings and introductions.
As long as you're not going to schedule anything during my normal lesson time, I highly recommend trying out a lesson with Alex Sensei!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I'm a seasoned Japanese tutor and I have a strong passion in what I do.
