My education is an M.S. in Chemistry with concentration in Biochemistry from San Jose State University in 1988. I also have MS in Chemistry from Punjab University, Lahore, Pakistan. During my graduate study at San Jose State University, I taught as a lab instructor, Chemistry 30A and 30B classes for three years. This is a general Chemistry class for non chemistry major students. Each semester I scored an "A" in my teaching evaluations by the students. Before pursuing my graduate study I taught in Oakland School district as a substitute teacher for about one year. In Pakistan I was a scientist in the Atomic Energy Commission of Pakistan. I was responsible to study the protein quality of newly evolved leguminous crops and bacterial transformation studies. I worked there for about ten years, which resulted in my 10 publications one of which is in an American Journal.
After graduating from San Jose State University, I have worked as a Chemist or a lab analyst for private industry and city government in the field of analytical chemistry. My last job was at the environmental services department of City of San Jose as a lab analyst. I was responsible for the analyses of waste water treatment plant samples as well as industrial waste samples to check on their compliance of the waste limits. All the analyses were performed following the standard methods for various physical and chemical analyses. I also did bacterial analyses for E.coli, on the waste water plant samples before its release to the bay. Many sophisticated instruments - GC, GC-MS, HPLC and spectrophotometers were used for the chemical analyses of water samples. I retired from this job after 12 years of service.
