About Maria

Russian is my native language. I graduated from Moscow State University (also known as "Harvard of Russia") with a diploma with honors (we call it red diploma) and soon realized that I'm passionate about sharing my knowledge.

Ever since I've been teaching English and Spanish, watching my students grow and learn incredibly fast. It gives me so much joy to help my students achieve their goals!

I grew up in Moscow and all my lessons have a huge cultural section, where I help my students understand and accept the interesting and charming culture of Mother Russia. Usually within each topic I divide my lessons into 6 essential parts: grammar, speaking, new vocabulary, reading and"entertainment" (e.g. song in the foreign language, a movie, cartoon, comics etc.). Also I make sure the topics I choose are of interest for each student. My parents moved to Russia when I was 7 years old, so I had to study Russian as a foreign language myself. I know exactly what it takes to master a foreign language and the problems my students face, because once I was walking in their shoes as well.
When I first went to Spain I fell in love with its passionate language of love and decided to not only speak it, but master it as if it was my native tongue. So I spent over 10 years mastering it in MSU and Instituto Cervantes. But to make sure I know it well, I had to dive into the spanish speaking environment. So, I lived in Spain where I was able to dive into the hispanic culture, but I wanted more, so I volunteered with a charity organization in Colombia, where I was teaching as well, visited Ecuador and traveled Peru, mastering my Spanish. And for the past 5 years I share with my students my knowledge and teach them not only to be fluent in Spanish and Russian, but also to understand culture and people that speak those languages as their mother tongue. I use books approved by Instituto Cervantes, "" grammar book, "" manuals and vide range of online resources to make the process easy and fun, as I know, learning a foreign language is a pretty challenging experience.

Join me in this challenging but interesting journey called "Understand and become fluent in a foreign language".

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Russian

I am a native Russian speaker. I have graduated from Moscow State University (also known as Russian Harvard), which is ranked to be in the list of top 100 universities of the world.

I grew up in Moscow and as I had to learn Russian as my first foreign language myself, at the age of 6, when my parents moved to Moscow, I believe I know better how to tutor it, since I went through it myself, opposed to those who were actually born into the language.

All in all I have 9 years of training at Lomonosov Moscow State University (including 3 years of the post grade training) and I graduated with a diploma with honor (red diploma).

I've been teaching Russian as a foreign language for the past 5 years as a private tutor as well as in some well-known language schools, such as Beverly Hills Lingual Institute (BHLI).

Most of my students are adults, but I also work with children 7 years and older. Depending on my students' goals, I always adjust my classes, but generally, I like using "Golosa" by Richard M.Robin during my classes. Also, after certain lever I make an emphasis on speaking in Russian.

Speaking about my "students' successes", many of them shared that they felt comfortable during their travels to Russia and were able to connect with the culture and locals easier, because they took my classes.

Songwriting

Music has always been my passion since I was 5 years old and I started writing songs at the age of 7. I graduated from Moscow College of Improvisational music with diploma in vocals and Composition. I have composed over 150 songs for myself or other recording artists in different genres. From jazz and pop to EDM. I started with Jazz during my student years. But eventually I fell in love with contemporary music and EDM and right now I'm working on a dance album.
Also I got certification from Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, majoring in Voice and Songwriting. Since then I was tutoring songwriting, piano and voice for the past 3 years. Writing songs is easy and fun, but there are some specific tools that can help you to make the process easier and I'd love to share them with you.

Voice (Music)

I've graduated from Moscow State College of improvisational music, majoring in Voice in 2013.
Since then I've been teaching voice and music theory privately. I use both the famous Russian classical approach and a contemporary jazz approach.
