I have tutored high schools students in Mathematics at Cal State for the Upward Bound program for over a year, helping underprivileged youths grasp mathematical concepts. In my community I have helped many homeschoolers who struggle with learning through online programs. My strong-suits are Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry, though I can tutor in Pre-Calculus and Calculus where needed. In my classes at Cal State I have tutored my fellow students who needed extra help understanding the concepts from our theory classes. I have a deep ability to following logic and to think critically.
As for my methods of Tutoring, I begin my first session with a student by asking a series of simple questions aimed at discovering a students skill level and areas of struggle, getting to know the student and helping them to answer any particular questions they need help with and have brought with them to our first session. The main goal of the first session, however is to observe how the student approaches mathematical problems, and for me to gain an understanding of which methods of learning and teaching a student responds to best. Once these things have taken place, I am able to prepare specific questions / worksheets very similar to, but not identical to the material from their class. We can then proceed to work through each problem with guided examples with questions and answers.
As far as group sessions are concerned, I am available for group sessions, though it is not preferred as there may not be enough time to spend answering each students questions. Normally in my past experience, in a one-on-one tutoring session, students show better improvement.
