Hi! My name is Grace and I am a recent UCLA graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Biology. I am currently attending Optometry school, working towards a Doctor of Optometry degree.
I have been tutoring and mentoring since I was in high school. My tutoring experience began in the setting of a public library (which lasted a couple of years), and slowly progressed into private one-on-one tutoring. Tutoring has always been extremely enjoyable to me because helping people is truly such a gratifying experience. Having received tutoring myself, I know how beneficial it is and how helpful it can be in the long run. It really makes a difference. Sometimes a more intimate, private setting to ask for help is exactly what people need.
I am currently only offering tutoring sessions in the Covina/West Covina neighborhood at a nearby coffee shop in the following subjects:

Very flexible and promptly responds to email requests. Energetic and concerned about the student's progress. Grace is patient and gives clear explanations to our daughter who attends a university and requires tutoring for chemistry.
Grace tutors in such a way that motivates the student to excel.
Grace was with me for a whole semester and she helped me so much I couldnt believe what I accomplished after it was all over. I struggles so much with math I had to take the same class a total of six times and on the sixth try i hired Grace to tutor me and i was striving for a C in the class just because i didnt think I could do better because how hard math was for me and next thing you know after her services I end up getting a B in the class far exceeding my expectations. There is no way i could have done this without Grace being so understanding and patient with me, she is a young girl so she knows exactly what school is like being a college student herself so she is very patient and understanding and most of all she really cares about her students. I highly recommend Grace to anyone struggling in any subject she teaches.
I just found Grace to work with a 5th grader I used to tutor. It was very important to me to find someone with the right personality and approach who would connect with the student the way I had. After speaking with Grace on the phone, I knew she would be perfect fit, and so far the student really likes her. Grace is also a great role model for young girls, having just graduated with a degree in Science from UCLA. Finding someone who could inspire the student was very important. Grace was also immediately responsive to my inquiry and flexible about the hours she could tutor.
Latest update (2/1/12):
Grace is doing great work with my my mentee. She is consistently getting As in subjects she has struggled with and I could not be more thrilled. And, my daughter and her Mom give Grace rave reviews.
Latest update (8/13/12)
Grace is doing a phenomenal job. She has moved beyond tutoring and is actually teaching my mentee over the summer like she is the elementary school teacher. I did not want my mentee to lose all she had learned over the summer so Grace has developed lesson plans. She even provides grades!
During the first tutoring session, I was hesitant to build rapport. We were going over Math word problems that I haven't reviewed in years! After the first 30 minutes, she was able to slow down to the pace I needed to understand the problems and answered all the questions that I had. Afterwards, I felt secure knowing that her patience and knowledge was a good personality fit for me. Grace is very organized, punctual, kind and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend her as an exceptional tutor!
Basically, she taught me in two hours what my Chem professor did in about two weekend meetings. She broke it down clear as day, she was very patient and she really knew how to teach chemistry effectively. Simply put, she will be a life saver from here on out especially through O-Chem! Thanks a bunch Grace!
She has all of the required education and skills necessary, but most importantly she has the ability to teach clearly and with patience. I consider myself lucky to have found her to assist me with the tutoring that I require.
Grace is a really good tutor. She helped me pass my Chemistry final with a pretty good score. She made an outline for me that covered most of the topics on the test. She was also really good at explaining the sections that I did not understand. She was really nice and gave detailed explanations. Without her, I would've gotten a pretty low score on the Chemistry final, so thanks Grace!
Thank you Grace, for coming to the rescue, as a tutor you are truly five star. Gregory said that he feels by you tutoring him he will become much faster. I could hear and see his confidence change after one lesson. Thank you once again.
Grace was very prompt in responding and was able to accommodate us on a last minute request. She was able to communicate the materials very clearly to my daughter. My kid was sick and had missed two days of school so the material was new to her. She took the make up test today and scored an almost perfect score for the 1st time 14/15.
For a young teenager Grace was a good role model, to the point and very articulate.
I am 100% satisfied with my tutorial lesson from from Grace L. She was very helpful and saved me a lot of trouble by having me call the school first to find out exactly what I need and do not need to do prior to attending college. She helped me a lot with my Math.... thank you very much Grace!
Grace L. responded very quickly after I sent her a message. She is a very honest and professional person. My son was so nervous meeting with a tutor, but she managed to ease my son's fears and he was really comfortable with her. I look forward to having her help my son in the future.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
