Bio

I went to Harvard (Biology major, graduated cum laude). My day job is in investment banking/consulting, but I've always been passionate about education. So I started teaching and tutoring students on the side. Parents love what I do because I am laser focused on results and helping students achieve their very best academic work. Students love working with me because I take the time to listen and understand where they're coming from and I explain difficult concepts in a simple way.

"Hi Gil. Thank you so much for your talented, persistent, and competent tutoring. We will definitely be hoping you are available for our son, Mason. We plan on beginning tutoring for the SAT/ACT in August." -S.C (Parent)

"Hi Gil - I have been meaning to email you, but have been so busy with tennis. Anyway I just wanted to let you know I received a 29 composite score on ACT which I am surprised about. My scores increased one point on each test and two on science. I went from a 29-30 on English, 26-27 math, 31-32 reading, and 26-28 science. Originally I think my target score was about a 29-30, so thank you so much for helping me reach it! Thanks for all your help!!" - JK (Student)

Statistics

If you're feeling lost in Stats, I totally understand. The first time I ever took Stats, I was completely lost. The formulas didn't make sense and I struggled to remember them, how to apply them, and what was the point of all these different statistical tests...? Also, I had no idea how to work my calculator. I would do things that I had memorized from what my teacher showed me, but I had no idea what I was doing or why I was doing it. Anyway, the turning point came when I went to Harvard and had to take Stats for my Biology concentration. I was lucky and had an awesome Teaching Fellow (basically the equivalent of an Instructional Assistant at Harvard) leading my section (a small group broken off from the main lecture groups). He presented the material in a way where I GOT what we were doing in Stats, and WHY.

Are you running out of time on the ACT Reading section? Do you feel like you can't decide the correct answer choice, even after you've narrowed it down a bit? Does it feel "mysterious" trying to come up with the right answer? I'm going to show you how to get the passages done AND get your accuracy up -- while making the process of finding the right answer super easy in a way where the right answer just "clicks" for you. Let's get started!

Yousef enjoyed your tutoring, he learned a lot academically and picked up good learning skills and valuable test taking tips that will help him and stay with for the rest of his life. He is very smart (IQ of 152) but his strengths lie in the English/Social Science and Art realms. He is a gifted musician who has always struggled with math, especially Algebra, just like I did. With that struggle & the feeling of not doing well in subject, the idea of just giving up on it naturally has come. I appreciate you taking the time to know him and I like your encouraging, yet challenging approach! Thank you!" - Brenda (Parent)

I really focus on helping students know the most important material for Calculus AB and BC (no fluff!) and to also understand the concepts intuitively. Then we work on translating that understanding into practical problem solving techniques that will help you not only get through the HW, but succeed under pressure during exams. Let's get started!
Physics,

Physics

If you're struggling with Kinematics, Forces, Work & Energy, Electricity & Magnetism, I'd be glad to help. The first time I took Physics, it was a blur of information and I had to really grapple with the new concepts and ideas. The hardest part was learning the new material and then applying it, under pressure, on an exam with completely new problems that were significantly harder than the homework problems. I'm going to help you think about Physics concepts in intuitive ways where even if you have never seen a problem before, you'll be able to unravel it and get to an answer that "makes sense" to you. There is a certain beauty and elegance to Physics, and if I can get at being able to share a shred of appreciation for the subject by working together, that would be a nice bonus too! Let's get started.

Recent review: "Gilmore is an excellent tutor in everything college prep. He gave me great tips for my SAT and has also helped me craft and perfect my common app college essay. He gives valuable insight from a critical point of view in order to maximize improvement. He does more than correct simple grammar mistakes; he suggests different ideas, concepts, and details in order to perfect each and every essay. Overall, he is an amazing tutor." Also, I've been on the Harvard admissions committee as as an alumni interviewer for 12 years.

Accuracy in the Science section -- how do you slice through the passage and the data, charts, and tables to find the correct answers? 2. Speed in the Science section -- how do you move FASTER while retaining high accuracy? 3. Mental Energy in the Science section -- how do you process information and make decisions efficiently so that you can preserve your energy, focus and attention and keep up a high accuracy and speed throughout the entire section? We'll go over those skills and more so that you can rock the ACT Science section!

Overall, he is an amazing tutor." MCAT

As a Harvard undergrad and Biology concentration (Class of '03), I took a broad range of classes in Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. In college, I tutored fellow classmates and organized study groups. I scored a 36 on my MCAT (95.7-97.2% percentile range), including a 12 in the Physical Sciences section, a 12 on the Biological Sciences Section, and a 12 on the Verbal Section. Subsequently have taught the MCAT in a class setting for a boutique tutoring company and independently as a private tutor (students from Harvard, Cornell, Columbia, Colgate, UCI Irvine).

SAT Reading,

SAT Reading

I went to Harvard (Biology major, graduated cum laude). My day job is in investment banking/consulting, but I've always been passionate about education. So I started teaching and tutoring students on the side. Parents love what I do because I am laser focused on results and helping students achieve their very best academic work. Students love working with me because I take the time to listen and understand where they're coming from and I explain difficult concepts in a simple way.

Very knowledgeable, and a great teacher

I am working with Gilmore on Physics and Chemistry. He is great at explaining complicated concepts in very simple terms. I will be continuing to work with him and highly recommend him to others.

Expert

Gilmore C. is an expert as a tutor readily prepared to meet any stressed and anxious student's needs. As a nervous college applicant, Gilmore helped me come to terms with understanding how the college application works, and made me feel confident in being able to express my true self in my Common App essay. Miraculously, he helped me keep my own personal tone while subtly improving my syntax, essay structures, and diction. I would still be biting my fingernails at a blank page wondering what to write in my Common App essay if it would not have been for Gilmore. I can only state that I have the utmost respect for this amazing tutor and recommend him for any student looking for help in the college application process. Gilmore always responded quickly, positively, and with the answers I didn't even know I was looking for. Thank you so much for helping me in my application process!

High Quality SAT Tutoring

Before coming to Gilmore for help, I was completely frustrated with my score in SAT reading. After working with many different tutors, my score actually began decreasing. However, after just one session with Gilmore, my score improved improved greatly. After a few seasons, I have improved my error margin from about 9-10 errors a section to about 1-2 errors. His systematic yet customized approach to teaching makes it very easy to grasp concepts. I'm incredibly grateful that we found Gilmore to help with tutoring, and feel entirely prepared to take the PSAT and SAT this November. I highly recommend Gilmore to anybody looking for high quality, fruitful tutoring!
