In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have been playing guitar for 45 years. I play all styles: classical, jazz, rock, folk I can teach people how to read music to play guitar or how to play by ear. Most people stop trying to learn guitar when they realize that learning guitar is 80% regular practice. Therefore I teach guitar with this in mind and try to ensure that the student has a sense of accomplishment after each lesson.
I have studied music theory for forty years. I have played with other musicians and discussed and applied theoretical ideas. Music theory is avoided by many individuals who "play by ear". I have found that if and when these people start to learn the abstract rules of music theory they are amazed at how easy it is and wonder why they were so intimidated and avoided it.
