I have always had a strong curiosity for music since a very young age. Before I was able to afford a private tutor, I always taught myself to sing and play piano by ear. All my life I begged my parents to let me audition for art schools because I was only myself when I was surrounded by creative people and music.
Now that I have my bachelor's degree in music (with a focus in vocal performance), I have an eagerness to share all of my knowledge to help people inspired by the arts to have an upper hand when it comes to those recitals, auditions, college applications, and even AP theory exams! Even if music is just something you've always been curious about and never got the chance to try, I would be that much more elated to share this wonderful language with you. I have been teaching and tutoring students of all backgrounds in music for about two years now. From ages 8 to 15 and 22.
For me, every student I have comes with a unique lesson plan. This is why I provide a questionnaire to help me get to know you better and understand what you want to get from your lessons. I like my students to bring a recording device so they can record any warm-ups we begin with. I also like them to bring a notebook and take notes. If the student has shown interest in music theory. I will spend at least 10 mins in lessons with a bit of theory and ear training. I also have tutored in history and sight reading.
I know it is the hardest decision to choose from a massive list of music teachers. I offer much more than just teaching because I am also a performer. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Took several music theory courses, each course was accompanied by a keyboard lab, a musicianship lab, and an ear training lab for a total of about 7 or more hours a week of class and 10 or more hours a week of practice.
Students were required to receive passing scores in every lab and on every ear training exam in order to pass the entire course.
Ear training exams consisted of voice leading, music notation, Choral notation, chord notation, chord recognition, interval recognition, scale recognition, etc.
I am qualified to tutor in this subject because I have graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Classical Music and received advanced training in this skill.

I earned my Bachelor's degree in Music in June of 2016 from the University of California, Santa Cruz. UCSC prides itself on its "cut-throat" music program. Every music student, no matter what instrument their major focuses on, must learn to play the piano and must pass the program’s Piano Proficiency Exam. Music students cannot move forward in the program with out passing this exam. The exam includes a scales portion, performance portion, and a sight reading portion.
Each theory course was accompanied by a keyboard lab, musicianship lab, ear training lab, and before passing the exam; a group piano lab as well for a total of over 7 hours a week of practice in class time alone.
Therefore, I am more than qualified to teach piano to students of all ages.
I recently graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, focusing on vocal performance. While earning my degree I took several courses in vocal technique, performance, vocal styles, and IPA. I earned a scholarship award at UCSC due to my advanced skill in understanding the voice as an instrument and three other scholarship awards at the NATS Voice Competition, two in upper-college classical voice and one in upper-college musical theater.
While earning my degree, I mentored several new coming voice students; introducing them to the program and providing guidance as a resource to them. I also started my own music tutoring business on campus in 2015 for non music students in order to share the wealth and knowledge of music. I have been teaching voice for nearly 2 years now and I have taught students of all ages, levels of comprehension, and genres. The genres I am most familiar with are classical/opera, musical theater, popular voice, as well as mariachi voice.
As an award winning voice student and performer, I feel like I have an upper hand in this division because I share knowledge from my own experience, connections, and achievements.
