About Navneet

My passion for tutoring comes from my desire to help students set up a foundation that will help them achieve academic success. I truly feel that this is a crucial time for students to build study skills and the confidence they need throughout the course of their academic career. With over 4 years of experience in tutoring and behavioral therapy, I have come to know that tutoring is a combination of helping students understand concepts as well as building their confidence with positive and encouraging feedback.

I primarily specialize in elementary level English, Reading, and Language Arts. I also focus on areas such as, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, handwriting, and study skills. I like to focus on the homework my students get assigned from school so that they are not overwhelmed. I make it a point to make learning a fun part of my students' lives.

Generally, I am available everyday from noon-6 PM and conduct session in person at the student's homes. If you would like to schedule a session outside of the hours I listed, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate you. My base rate is $40/ an hour for in person sessions.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve your academic goals.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Autism

I have been trained in applied behavior analysis in over 3 clinics, all by BCBAs. I have over 2 years of experience using these methods as a trained behavior therapist. I use ABA to help the child achieve progress in day to day activities as well as academics. Children with Autism require a different approach to learning which in turn requires a different approach to teaching. I have that experience and would love to combine that with teaching for children in need of those services.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have experience in tutoring children in K-6 in primarily writing, reading, English, study skills, and language arts. I use a combination of behavioral therapy skills to help students learn effectively and boost their confidence in subjects at the same time. This makes learning effective and fun for all subjects and ages. For each subject, I use a variety of worksheets that challenge the student and help them actually understand he concept.

For English, I have taught students to determine the grammatical errors in each sentence or passage. How to apply grammar in sentences, as well as how to form sentences. I use methods such as word formation through flashcards and interactive play that help students form sentences as it relates to them.

For Reading comprehension, I will give them different passages or stories and teach them to figure out what the main points were, setting questions, as well as questions pertaining to the story. I teach this by reading to them or with them their choice of story, that way it appears more as fun rather than learning. This is the best way for students to enjoy learning.

For language arts and writing, I will give them different prompts for different kinds of writing using proven methods taught in school. These include venn diagrams, brainstorming charts, etc.

For math skills, I will use worksheets and practice problems that will help improve their skills and help them understand where they are having trouble. I use methods such as games with dice that help them count, grouping everyday objects to help with multiplication, addition, and subtraction.

Handwriting

I have over 4 years of experience helping students improve their handwriting skills. I use a variety of strategies that help students practice trouble letters as well as letter structure. Methods primarily used are, dry erase board outlining, chalkboards, as well as handwriting books and pages. My main focus is making handwriting improvement a fun activity.

Reading

I have tutored children in reading and comprehension for over four years. I have learned that improving reading skills is a combination of continuous reading and a desire to read. That desire comes from making reading fun and interactive; this way children will always want and love to read. I make learning, for all subjects, productive and efficient but fun at the same time.

Study Skills

I have taught children as well as adults how to improve their study skills and better their time management skills. I have used a variety of methods such as having the student use a planner, write down all their assignments and due dates. I have also taught students how to use their time wisely to study without overwhelming themselves. I have taught students how to effectively study; when to take breaks, how to take notes, making flashcards, and how to avoid cramming information.
