Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Arabic

I, Dr Dean, am a native speaker of Arabic and have taught it in Algeria in secondary school for 2 years, then in the US on and off to private organizations (e.g., Students at a Mosque in San Francisco) and individual students (e.g.; private tutoring on and off for 3 years and tutoring with WyzAnt for the past 2 years).

I'm also a college professor with over 20 years of teaching experience teaching psychology, psychotherapy, etc. to graduate and undergraduate students all the way to the doctoral level.

I also speak 4 languages including French, Arabic, English and Berber.

Career Development

I've taught Career Planning to students in at least 6 majors (e.g., Computer Information Systems, Business, etc.) at DeVry University for over 15 years.

Students have to learn how to write eye catching resumes and cover letters, research companies, interview effectively (through mock interviews), answer interview questions effectively (and distinguish between legal and illegal questions),learn to dress appropriately for an interview, and write effective thank you letters after getting the job.

Much time was spent on two mock interviews (critiqued by me and other students). Emphasis in this course was on a)know thyself and what you have to offer an employer, b)rehearse answers to common and important interview questions, 3) build rapport with the interviewer and 4) end the interview on a positive note.

I used to be a Career Counselor at San Francisco State University (2 years) before I started teaching Career Planning.

French

I enjoy teaching and have been opening minds for over 20 years. My motto is "students should learn and have fun at the same time." I do this through games and interactive exercises. When I teach psychology, I encourage my students to apply the learning to their daily lives. In tutoring French, I encourage my students to immerse themselves in the culture through themed conversations (e.g., French Cafe, Au Restaurant, Chez Le Coiffeur, etc.) to get a good contextual grasp of the French language.

Besides teaching psychology for over 20 years I've taught French in High School for a year and in college for three years, and served as a tutor as well (e.g.; private tutoring on an off for 3 years and tutoring with WyzAnt for the past 2 years).

Psychology

I'm a semi-retired PhD Psychologist and college professor with over 20 years of teaching experience teaching psychology and psychotherapy courses to graduate and undergraduate students all the way to the doctoral level.

Public Speaking

For over 15 years I've taught Student Success Strategies at DeVry University.

Public Speaking was one of the major topics and I've covered many important issues related to effective Public Speaking . They include how to get your audience attention with key questions right at the outset of your presentation, how to present your ideas clearly and precisely, how to control your own nonverbal cues (especially eye behavior) in the most effective way and how to decipher the audience nonverbal cues effectively as well.

Students had to rate other student presenters on two major things: process and content. Everything thing else (e.g.; sense of humor, self-confidence) was the icing on the cake. Public Speaking was one of my favorite topics.
