Hi! I'm Jennell. I'm currently a PhD student studying Microbiology, Immunology, and Infectious Disease at the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine. As you can see, I really love science! :) In addition to conducting research, I work as a teacher's assistant within the School of Medicine. As a teacher's assistant I strive to create a safe and open space for my students to learn, grow, and ask questions. I believe it's important for students to not just memorize answers and facts, but aim to learn topics on a conceptual level, and really dig deep and understand subjects in a manner which fosters long-term understanding. I want the best for all of my students and take joy in watching my students progress and succeed!
I hold a BS in Microbiology, a MS in Medical Science, and am currently obtaining a doctorate in Microbiology and Immunology. Prior to attending my doctorate program I conducted research within the San Diego biotechnology industry for over two years. I have experience with General Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, Developmental Biology, Medical Physiology, Medical Terminology, and General Chemistry.
As part of my science training, I've also completed a considerable amount of instruction in mathematics. I have experience tutoring elementary maths, pre-algebra, algebra I and II, trigonometry, college algebra, and pre-calculus.
I have experience tutoring both K-12 students and undergraduate college students. I tailor lesson plans to each individual student as each student learns differently. Our first tutoring appointment will consist partly of a short conversation where we discuss you or your child's preferred learning style so we can incorporate those methods into creating a tutoring strategy that best suits you or your child's needs. In order to best serve you, I request that you send me any syllabi or class material so I can tailor our lesson plan to you or your child's specific course.
