Hi, I'm Linda. I'm a retired teacher and former Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader. I love sharing my passion for learning with others. As someone with learning differences myself, I appreciate that everyone has their own learning strengths and challenges. Hi, I'm Linda. I'm a retired teacher and former Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader. I love sharing my passion for learning with others. As someone with learning differences myself, I appreciate that everyone has their own learning strengths and challenges. I have years of experience helping youths and adults find their way to mastering a wide variety of subjects. I approach topics from several angles to ensure my students have a thorough understanding.

I am something of a "Jack of All Trades" in that I enjoy math and the sciences as well as English, history, and social studies. As an undergraduate in college, I began studying business administration but discovered a passion for economics and political science, so I majored in all three! I grew up cooking for groups up to 120 people and helping my father build houses. After raising 4 children and volunteering full-time in their schools and in Boy Scouts, I returned to school to get my teaching credential. I credentialed in foundational math, English, home economics, and elementary subjects. I've taught elementary, middle, high school and adult education. Whichever level and subject I'm teaching at the time is always my FAVORITE!

I teach math through geometry. I excel at finding several ways of approaching any problem, especially when the concept is more abstract. I can help students tie the abstract to concepts they already know, making learning easier and deeper. I approach math like a puzzle. Solving that puzzle can be fun! Once you understand the concepts, you don't need to worry about memorizing lots of formulas or algorithms.

Learning is a partnership between student and teacher. I look forward to working with you to help you find your best strategies for learning. Many of my former students have told me that subjects they dreaded initially are now their favorite! Everyone can learn; no one needs to struggle alone. Schedule an appointment to see how much you can achieve with my individualized guidance.

I was credentialed in California to teach English, math, home economics, and elementary subjects. I completed my credential program at Saint Mary's Kalmanovitz School of Education. Along with subject matter and instructional techniques, we were taught instruction of study skills and organization. One of my objectives when teaching middle school students and remedial classes at the high school level was helping students develop study skills. That is also a major focus when I tutor students who've struggled with school in general. Additionally, two of my own 4 children have ADD and needed assistance in developing and consistently utilizing study skills. I assist students in developing structures that work well for them and their parents/guardians. They learn time management, project planning, and physical organization to prevent losing papers and materials. I take the approach that study skill systems need to be individualized for every student. They need to be convenient and easy enough to use consistently. Getting into good study habits can make a tremendous difference in both a student's success in school and enjoyment of learning.
