Univ. of Santa Cruz (Restoration Ecology)
J. F. Kennedy University (Master's)
Hello--First, I am a certified TEFL/TESL teacher. I taught English at the high school level and tutored privately in Costa Rica, where I lived from 2013 to 2016. After obtaining my basic degree in Restoration Ecology and a master's in Museum Education, I spent over 15 years teaching in California natural history and science museums, presenting material on natural history and the native animals that live here. I have helped many people of all ages to better understand concepts in biology, ecology, natural history, climate change and sustainable living. I have also been trained and certified by former U.S. Vice President Al Gore to educate the public on the topics of climate change and sustainability, and have given Mr. Gore's PowerPoint presentation to hundreds of Californians, as well as various audiences (including high school and university students) in Costa Rica. I not only taught these groups about climate change, but also what they could do personally to help with the problem.
Additionally, I have many years' experience as a legal secretary and legal document editor, so that my proofreading and editing skills are very well developed. This makes it possible for me to help students gain the tools necessary to write successful papers. Over the years it has been my pleasure to help people increase the skills they need to do their best in school and beyond, and to understand the natural world and our place in it.
I have always loved learning about nature, in school and out, and how humans can live successfully with it. And I have enjoyed teaching others about the natural world so they can better understand this world we live in.
With a master's degree and experience as a legal editor, as well as a strong belief in the power of communication, I understand how important it is for students to have a good grasp of English and possess the skills necessary to speak and write well, in school and beyond.
I am available for tutoring every day from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., either in person or online. I look forward to helping you fulfill your study goals. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
