UC Berekely (general ed)
I have more than ten years experience as a CAD drafter for 2D maps with Land Surveying firms. I have had to tutor other fellow employees in AutoCAD, MS Word and Excel programs.
My AutoCAD knowledge started with version 12, which is a command driven program. I do use the drop down windows for some drafting, but find in my work, the more key board commands used tend to be more time effective.
I have also completed an Adult School course in MS Office, and have used Word and Excel in a professional setting.
Before working as a CAD drafter I coached High School Cross Country and Track for 15 years and learned that different students typically need individualized teaching methods, so I will change my way of teaching or explaining things, if I feel the student has trouble understanding a particular way of instruction.
In short, the technique that I find to be most effective is to demonstrate first, then get the students hands on and oversee progress in action with corrections as they go, and finally let them do a project start to finish and review with them the final product and make any suggestions that may make them more efficient in completing such projects.
One of the most helpful techniques for teaching people is to compliment on things they do well, as most learning is a matter of confidence. The sooner students feel confident, they are much quicker to be self sufficient. I have more than ten years experience as a CAD drafter for 2D maps with Land Surveying firms. Larry taught me general knowledge about computers that I didn't know. And before he left he made sure I was sure I knew what I was doing. After we kind of got to now each other the my lessons seem to get easier and easier.
He is knowledgeable and patient, and works through the AutoCAD issues and questions that I have carefully and thoroughly. Always cheerful and punctual. He communicates well during the tutoring session. I'm now able to keep up with the AutoCAD class I'm taking and am learning much from from Larry.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have 11 years of professional drafting experience with two Land Surveying Companies. I have drafted several hundred record maps that are now on file with various Bay Area Counties. During my Land Surveying employment, I was considered the lead drafter and would tutor co-workers in AutoCAD and other computer programs.
I coached high school cross country and track and field for more than 15 years.
I coached two state meet champions and have always had good improvement from any athlete that was consistent in training.
I have been to track clinics and was certified to coach from San Lorenzo Unified School District.
Most of my coaching has been coaching 400 meters and longer, but I have coached, sprints, jumps and hurdles.
There are many other facets to coaching and I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
