Bio

¡Hola! My name is Gina and I graduated from CSU Sacramento with a major in Spanish (Español!)

Speaking Spanish has always been my passion. I fell in absolute love with the language when I was a Freshman in high school (many years ago!) Upon hearing the fantastic way in which my teacher rolled her r’s - and also the beautiful, pure pronunciation of her Spanish vowels - I was mesmerized.

I knew I wanted to become fluent, and somehow use Spanish in my future career one day.

I decided to major in Spanish upon enrolling in college. While attending Sac State, I studied abroad twice in México - once in Guadalajara, and once in Monterrey. But, even after all my university-level college courses, intense dedication, and studying abroad in Spanish-speaking countries, I was never satisfied with my ability to speak the language the way I wanted to. You see, learning to speak another language is hard. Very hard. Enter the next part of my journey, and why I am so passionate about helping others learn their second language…

Upon graduating from college, I found myself working for the State of California in a cubicle. I was never able to figure out exactly what I wanted to do career-wise - only that I wanted to use my Spanish - but I knew working in a box wasn’t my destiny. So, I woke up one day, bought a plane ticket to Costa Rica, and ended up living there for two years! It was in Costa Rica that I truly learned to speak Spanish the way I’d always wanted to - by surrounding and immersing myself in the language and the culture.

While in Costa Rica, I supported myself by teaching English to young adults and high school-aged students. (I know, you’re probably thinking “wait, teaching English? I thought she was a Spanish tutor”). But let me explain - teaching English in Costa Rica is what taught me that I was destined for a career in Education. After living in Costa Rica for two years - I had accomplished two goals: 1) I had learned to speak Spanish the way I had always wanted, and 2) I figured out what I wanted to do with my life: get my Bilingual Teaching Credential, so that I could teach in a Dual Immersion program in California and help young students learn Spanish!

So here I am, in present time. I received my Bilingual Teaching Credential from CSU San Francisco 4 years ago, and have been teaching Spanish to young students ever since. Teaching Spanish is my purpose, and my commitment. It is what I do 60+ hours a week. If you are looking for a tutor who understands the struggles of learning another language, but has the passion and perseverance to to help you achieve your language-speaking goals, please contact me. Spanish is a highly relevant language in California, and it can also be fun and engaging when the right teaching strategies are used.
