I had the opportunity to work, for two years, as a senior tutor for Alternatives Unlimited, a private tutoring company. I tutored children ages K-12 with low standardized test scores in Math and Reading. This program utilized learning techniques and activities based on mathematics and reading concepts appropriate for each grade level. Each student's growth and improvement was measured using their pre-test scores in concepts associated with mathematics and reading. Each child was also given weekly assistance on homework assignments or projects currently being reviewed in their classrooms as needed. Many students made significant progress in their academic aptitude and standardized test scores. More importantly, each student gained confidence in their abilities with the help and support of their families. Each student was tutored in their own home which allowed parents and other family members to support the child in their problem areas and to be more involved in the learning process. It was a pleasure to see the children being excited to learn and to see parents proud of their children.
