I am a chemistry professor specializing in college general chemistry and biochemistry, and all levels of high school chemistry, including honors and AP. I have been a full time chemistry professor for over 10 years, during which time I have taught hundreds of students, with a wide variety of backgrounds, abilities, and confidence in chemistry.

My teaching is characterized by clear explanation of concepts, as well as a focus on problem solving skills and strategies for success in introductory chemistry and beyond. I have extensive experience adapting my teaching style and content to meet the needs of all my students, and frequently make use of every day analogies to explain challenging chemical concepts. Through my own teaching experiences, I have learned to anticipate common areas of confusion, and I can break down even the most complex problems into simple steps. I especially enjoy working one-on-one with students, and watching them grow not only in competence, but also in their confidence to "do" chemistry. My favorite success stories are those where a struggling student who is ready to quit chemistry discovers a passion for the subject and even decides to pursue chemistry or a related field as a major/career.

I am skilled at explaining difficult topics in a way that makes them easy to understand, and presenting them both in great depth and at the big picture level. There is probably no question you could ask that I haven't heard before, and I will answer each question with clarity, depth of understanding, enthusiasm, patience, and good humor.

I have a Ph.D. in biochemistry, and my areas of expertise are in enzyme reaction mechanisms and kinetics. I regularly teach a range of biochemical topics, including structure/function relationships of biomolecules, enzymology, metabolism and regulation, and biochemical techniques.

For the last 5 years, I have taught and tutored premedical/postbaccalaureate students MCAT-focused biochemistry content and have developed materials to prepare students for

AMAZING

I worked with Amy to help review biochemistry concepts for an exam and it was beyond helpful! She worked through practice problems with me in great detail, and made very visual diagrams to help with my understanding of each concept which she shared with me after our lessons so that I could review them. I plan to continue working with her even after my exam so that I can continue approaching each topic with the confidence that she has helped me build with the material.

Excellent tutor

Amy B was an excellent tutor. She helped me in my fast paced chemistry class. I was feeling a bit scared about my test but after my tutoring session with Amy I feel better and confident about taking my test. Amy was very clear on all things I needed reviewing on. I highly recommend Amy for future reference and if need future tutoring in chemistry I will definitely go through Amy B again

Tutor responded:

Thank you Maryam! My pleasure :)

Amy is a very patient tutor and passionate about Chemistry.

I am a Junior in High School. Amy helped me review for my AP Chemistry test at the end of the year. She was thorough with all of the lessons I was having trouble with and questions I had. She tutored me based on what what would be the most difficult to understand on the test and what would be the easiest. She took her time, and didn't rush me. Overall I was more confident on the test. I highly recommend Amy to anyone having a hard time with Chemistry. Thank You Amy!!!
