Ave Maria University (Theology)
I began teaching middle schoolers directly after graduating from Ave Maria University in 2014. I was hired by some homeschooling mothers at my church to teach their children in a classroom setting. I spent the 2014-1015 school year teaching literature and language arts, writing, and the Latin language to as many as eight middle school students in a class. I also aided in tutoring other subjects in between classes including history, and math as needed. In addition to the textbooks provided by the parents, I made up and provided supplementary worksheets for most classes and incorporated pictures and games to aid my students' learning. Since September 2015, I have been privately tutoring students in their home. I am in charge of teaching a 1st grader and a 7th grader in all subjects which includes writing lesson plans. I continue to teach Latin to five middle school students, who range in ability from a student with exceptionalities, to one who is quite gifted.
With all of my students, I strive to achieve three goals. First, I must to learn what the student's goal is and formulate how to achieve this goal, whether it is general learning, grade improvement, or just exploring alternative ways of learning. Second, I must gain my student's trust, so that the student has confidence in being taught by me. Finally, I must do my best to achieve to the goals laid out, with the cooperation of my student, as expediently as possible.
As someone who struggled with math from middle school through high school, I am very patient with helping student who struggle with this subject. I did quite well in my required college level math course and tutored fellow students who struggled. Since college, I have provided math tutoring to my middle school students as needed and I love helping my 1st grader with math.
I have worked as a proofreader for fellow classmates at university. I have taught literature, language arts and writing to middle schoolers for more than a year and I currently also teach a first grader, phonics, English, and reading and comprehension skills. With my instruction, an older student will learn to craft clear compositions and will improve vocabulary. For younger students I work to advance vocabulary, and ensure that a strong foundation of correct grammar is established.
I am an enthusiastic teacher and I love nothing more than seeing a struggling student grasp a new skill, understand a new concept, or achieve another goal. Whatever your needs are, I am here to help meet them. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you think I can help out. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
