About Omar

I am a high school teacher who enjoys helping students achieve their academic goals. I primarily work with students who may have dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD or autism. I believe my students over the years have taught me to be a better well rounded teacher and have given me the confidence to work with and help any type of student. When I am able to help students learn and become independent in their learning, I feel a sense of accomplishment.

I have been teaching high school math for over 10 years. Most students I taught really struggled in learning math due to having learning disabilities. They had different types and levels of difficulties with Pre-Algebra math skills. As a result, I have learned how to best teach subjects such as Algebra and Geometry in meaningful ways as well as elementary and middle school level math skills important for these subjects.

I believe that all students can learn and all students should have the opportunity to achieve the goals they dream of. I have worked with students at all age levels who may have special needs. I am always trying to find ways to better teach and support my students. Currently, I am being trained by a fellow in Orton Gillingham approach to help students tackle reading, writing and spelling difficulties. I also help students develop their executive functioning skills so that they are better organized and are able to study independently.

You are welcome to contact me if you feel that I could be of any help to you or your child.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Dyslexia

I have been working with students with dyslexia for over 10 years in classroom and one-on-one setting.

Special Needs

I have been an education specialist for over 10 years and have experience working with students in classroom and in one-on-one setting. I am continually looking for and trying out ways to help students do their best and achieve their academic goals.
