About Ali

I graduated from a Liberal Arts college, that focused on gifting their students with the tools of true liberation. The education provided was extremely rich and rigorous. My program provided very unique pedagogical approaches with an emphasis on language and writing skills, critical thinking, memorization skills, key foundational texts, familiarity with World Religions, and a grounding in the Greek and Islamic tradition. Among the subjects that I studied were astronomy, philosophy, ethics, literature, politics, science, history, and law; with an emphasis on language, theology, and logic. Currently, I am a graduate student, acquiring a Masters in Religion.

During the time of my undergrad, I engaged in private tutoring and taught classes. Last summer I also served as a TA for a summer Arabic Intensive program in Berkeley. My pedagogy is simple, we all learn no differently from children; we must engage our sight, mouth, and hands to truly grasp a thing. In cognitive science these three mediums of learning are better known as visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. I encourage my students to discover, which mode of learning is most natural to them; and using that as a focus point, I try to encourage my students to engage all three modes that will help them grasp the concept the best.

I love teaching, for two reasons. Firstly, one does not truly understand a subject matter, until they teach it. Secondly, there is nothing more wondrous, to me, than the moment of enlightenment. It is an experience that transforms the teacher as well as the student. However, the teacher can not learn for the student, he/she can only inspire and guide. As Mario Andretti said " Desire is the key to motivation, but it's determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal - a commitment to excellence - that will enable you to attain the success you seek." I am here to help point you in the right direction, but you must be the one to traverse the path, if you wish to arrive; and what a great arrival it is!

I have been a student of the Arabic language for the past 6 years, upon which I have had the honor of studying under several respectable scholars. During this time I engaged in being a TA, tutoring, and self studies. As a TA, many of my students have entered the classroom with zero exposure to the language, and exited with sufficiency to engage in self study. Studying under several scholars, I have had the privilege to be exposed to various pedagogies and textbooks, which have provided me with a holistic understanding of how to approach the language.

My undergrad was in the Liberal Arts, where learning to read and write was at the heart of each course. I have also tutored both native and non-native English speakers.

I have completed 2 years of religious studies during my undergrad and am currently pursuing a Masters in Religion. My proficiency is mainly in Islamic Studies, although I have competency in World Religions, and more so in Judaism.

Confucius is noted to have said that "success depends upon previous preparation, and without such preparation there is sure to be failure." Success is an aim that any motivated person strives to achieve; however, it is not within reach to those who do not give their due diligence. So come on by and let us begin the journey to success.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
