Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Autism

Throughout my teaching career, I have had autistic students in my classes. I attended workshops and inservices that provided strategies for teaching autistic children. Some strategies that I used were: keeping verbal instructions simple, speaking in a softer tone, minimizing distractions, and not requiring the child to look and listen at the same time. I often worked with real objects and pictures when I introduced new concepts and repeated instructions often. I kept a routine and warned the child when the routine may change. Since autistic children tend to be fixed on a certain subject, I would often link work to the student's interests.

Elementary (K-6th)

My active instruments include guitar, piano and voice. Throughout my career, I have given piano, voice and guitar lessons to many students, mostly children, with positive results.

Guitar

Piano

Reading
