Hi! I'm a very patient, experienced (16+ years) teacher who believes that learning should be fun. I have taught all ages of elementary to eighth grade students. I have also raised my children who are now college graduates with amazing jobs that they love. I have taught all elementary school subjects including handwriting and phonics. My favorite subject is science/lab/experiments/projects. I taught elementary students in a laboratory setting. We blew things up (safely!) and had allot of fun.

I am currently in a wheelchair/scooter as arthritis has made it difficult for me to walk, but I get around everywhere and I am on my way back to walking with physical therapy. I have a special talent for teaching students with disabilities. I prefer to meet at the library near my home or in a public place as it is simply easier for me to get there. I do not have a car, but I am open to other means of traveling; i.e., public transportation, rides, etc. I love meeting new people and students.

I struggled with Math as a child and know the issues that contributed to those difficulties; that is say, having been there, I can connect directly with a struggling student and share the ways of learning and doing math that have helped me to be successful.

I have a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and Professional Communication. My minors are science and graphics. I have a natural love of all subjects of science and keep up to date with recent discoveries and developments. My philosophy, in regard to science is: Science: Our Lives Depend On It!

I have taught reading in many different scenarios and have many methods to share to make reading easier. In one school, we formed "one room school house classrooms" where students were grouped by their ability to read. I was successful in raising all 35 of my students from a second grade level to third grade level in less than a semester. This class included not only reading words but comprehension skills.

I have studied four years of Junior high and high school Spanish and two years college Spanish. My sister is a language teacher and we converse regularly via the internet, writing and on video to keep our Spanish skills sharp. I also use Spanish whenever possible; i.e., meeting and talking with Spanish-speaking people who I meet in everyday life.

If you are looking for a tutor who is patient, kind, caring and can make your learning fun, contact me today! I promise I will help you understand your subject in a way that will raise your grades and hopes for your future. I hope to meet YOU soon!

While teaching at Milwaukee Public Schools, I attended five, day long sessions regarding Common Core subjects. It was required as part of my position as Science Laboratory Teacher. I was assigned the duties of ensuring the common core subjects were covered in the science department and integrated with the classroom teachers in order to make the most of our teaching time. As part of the Super Teacher Team of the Antioch Unified School District, California, I wrote active lessons and assessments for common core subjects. These lessons are incorporated in a lesson plan book provided to teachers throughout the district.

I studied two semesters, 12 credit hours of Anthropology at Marquette University when they offered the credits as an employee benefit. This was before working on my B.S. in Education. Anthropology was a deep interest of mine and it remains a special interest of mine and a subject with which I keep up to date and follow recent developments. When I took the courses, I thought it might be a career choice, but upon leaving Marquette University, i decided to follow the Education route.

I have twelve continuing education credits from Marquette University. I attended and participated in four sessions (one hour for six weeks each of the four sessions) of Marquette University's biology department to learn more about plants, their growth, uses and reproduction. The classes included instruction as well as hands on planting and growing of various plants in varied climates.

ADHD

I have attended many conferences and seminars regarding ADHD; totaling 12 continuing education credits This is in addition to my coursework which included "Teaching Students with Special Needs". My practice teaching and 13+ years of teaching included teaching special needs students in inclusion classrooms as well as separate classes. My own son is my greatest experience as it included daily motivation and assistance with focus, organization and school work. He is now a successful, independent adult with a B.S. degree and a double major. Teachers and doctors told me he would always need to "lean on someone" and mostly likely would be living with family all of his life. I have proven this to be untrue as he is now teaching overseas and is on his own.
