Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

As a fulltime 2nd grade teacher at the Fairfield Unified School District, I was fortunate to gain opportunities in attending Common Core Sate Standards professional development trainings in mathematics, including problem solving and computational strategies. In addition, I attended professional trainings exploring the language arts in writing, academic language, vocabulary enrichment, reading comprehension, speaking, and listening strategies. After every professional development, my eagerness to teach blossomed, especially due to the positive engagement and academic enrichment that my students have gained from every lesson. Additionally, I collaborated with a team that met regularly in order to outline specific lessons as well as implement small group intervention blocks to meet the needs of every student. It was a joy to see my students thrive and progress quickly in their academic as well as their social skills. In addition to the trainings I have gained, I completed my masters’ education in teacher action research, outlining the importance of encouraging students to explore their interests in writing. All in all, I was always happy to meet with the parents, to enrich my students in education, to build strong community relations, and to foster a college bound learning environment for all.
