Chapman University, Orange, California (Psychology)
Hello! I have always loved to learn. My first teaching position was in a Montessori school that taught students through first grade. The experience provided me with the knowledge that every child develops on a different learning curve, which is why the tutoring process is so crucial. While teaching, I attended and graduated from Chapman University with a B.A. in Psychology with an emphasis on child development and adolescent development. As a magna cum laude graduate, I know that hard work and dedication to learning can bring success. While in college, I tutored many fellow students in different subjects and helped them prepare for exams. After I received my degree, I tutored students one-on-one in basic math, Algebra I, and essay writing. At my daughter’s elementary school, I helped students learn to read and was the “picture person,” or monthly art lesson teacher, in the classroom. I became a Girl Scout Leader for four years, and led my troop in many meetings and activities. Years later, I volunteered to be the “picture person” again for my son’s classroom. Both of my children are 4.0 students, and I have tutored and/or studied with them on a continual basis from elementary through high school.
My major was in Psychology, but my education was also in liberal arts. Therefore, I have the knowledge to tutor multiple subjects, including basic math through Algebra I, English grammar and writing skills, reading comprehension, psychology, biological sciences, sociology, Spanish I, study skills and organization, SAT and ACT preparation, and many other subjects. I enjoy working with students one-on-one; working individually with a child can help them overcome some of the frustration and confusion that takes place in a crowded classroom. I have a great amount of patience and understanding, along with the skills to help a child develop their own learning style and guide them to work through the problems at their own pace to ensure they thoroughly understand the material. Learning any subject is a step-by-step progression, and I know that I can guide each child through the steps needed to complete their learning process. I can tutor elementary, middle, and high school academics, and I am happy to travel up to five miles to tutor at your home, library, or another location conducive to learning. My students compliment me on being an understandable and patient tutor who really cares about their academic success. I would love to talk with you about the opportunity to help and work with you. I look forward to hearing from you and getting started on the road to success!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
