If so, I can help.
I am an experienced, committed and reliable tutor. I have been a tutor for 13 years and have helped hundreds of students in that time. Rather than focus on symptoms of academic problems, (i.e. having students read the questions before the passage to work on reading comprehension and making inferences or having students do spelling or math facts drills) I use programs that get to the core, underlying issues that are causing the academic struggles. The programs that I use are research-based and highly effective. Students learn how to comprehend and remember information for future reference instead of doing endless practice workbook pages or drills. I offer both one-on-one tutoring and group tutoring at a lower rate.
I tutor Pre-K through 12th grade students in all subjects. I help students struggling with listening comprehension, speech (expressive and receptive language), phonics, reading comprehension, spelling, writing, grammar, vocabulary, math, history, science, test-taking and study skills.
I have worked with many children who have speech delays or language disorders, such as specific language impairment. I have also helped many children on the spectrum. I use a program that helps students to develop both receptive and expressive language. My students have made great gains in the areas of conversation skills, narrative skills (story-telling), vocabulary-building, ability to follow directions, ability to use correct grammar when speaking and overall language comprehension (reading and listening comprehension).
Over the years, I have helped many ESL students. I help my students by assisting them in understanding their schoolwork; promoting correct pronunciation when reading aloud; and working on vocabulary-building, reading comprehension, grammar and writing skills.
I have served as a learning coach for students who are homeschooling using an online public school academy. When serving as a learning coach, I prepare for lessons, teach lessons and help students with schoolwork. If you are looking to homeschool this school year, feel free to e-mail me with any questions and I would be happy to talk to you about how I can be a learning coach for your student as well.
I am very dedicated to helping students reach their full potential at school. I work very hard to ensure that my students improve their skills. At the first session, I give my students a pre-assessment test to find out what areas we need to focus on. Then, I recommend certain materials based on each student's needs. These materials usually include research-based programs that are proven to improve academic skills.
I prepare my students for the rigorous Common Core curriculum if their schools use the Common Core. The programs that I use complement the Common Core and teach the student how to excel in logic, critical thinking, comprehension and written expression. After taking students through the research-based programs, I show them how to apply the techniques from the programs to Common Core material.
Although in-person tutoring is available, I am now offering online sessions via WyzAnt's new online tutoring platform and/or video chat. As a result of the clarity of the video chat, I am able to teach these sessions exactly as if I were sitting across the table from the student. I am able to teach the specialized programs that I use and even provide homework help via online methods. If using a specialized program, I have a copy of the workbook in front of me and the student has a copy of the workbook in front of him or her. We go through the comprehension activities on each page of the workbook exactly as if we are sitting across the table from one another. My online students really enjoy their online sessions because they are low-pressure and utilize technology such as the iPad or computer. Middle schoolers and high schoolers especially like tutoring online. Online tutoring is great for out-of-area students who really need the specialized programs that I offer, but are too far away for me to come to their homes. Many of my online students participate in several extracurricular activities, so online tutoring works well for them due to their time constraints. We can meet in person for the pre-assessment and for the first few sessions and then transition to online tutoring.
I require that parents/guardians sit with the student during all online sessions. This gives the parents/guardians the opportunity to see their student progress as we move through the programs. I also give parents/guardians activities to work on during non-tutoring days in order to help their students progress through the programs faster.
If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an e-mail.

Patient and Personable Tutor
My 15 year old son has been tutoring with Gabrielle for almost a year (since November 2014.) My son has always been a below-average student and has gone through a few different tutors including a popular commercial tutoring service. My son has improved dramatically over the last year, improving his GPA from a 1.8 to 2.3 at the end of the last academic year (2014-2015.) He’s on track to finish this first semester of the 2015-2016 academic year with a 2.8-3.0 GPA. His teachers and coaches are impressed by his increased academic skills and GPA. We believe Gabrielle’s one on one sessions that include research-based programs and series of steps have addressed my son's core academic issues and made him a more confident and independent learner. Gabrielle has been able to address his listening and reading comprehension, vocabulary-building, and writing skills which has helped him with homework, writing and visual-aid projects, quizzes/tests, and overall communication and thought process. I think the most important thing has been that Gabrielle shows patience and understanding. She allows him to think and express his thoughts whether right or wrong and gives him detailed explanation for the wrong answer or explains a possible better answer or solution. She has been able to help him visualize a scenario and the possible outcome(s). She is prepared for each session and doesn’t rush through the lessons. She makes sure he gets it and waits for him to be ready to move on to the next lesson or level. These qualities were evident in our communication before I selected her to tutor my son. The only one of a several tutors contacted that showed enthusiasm and passion for what she does with detailed summary of what she could possibly do for my son. The primary reason I chose her, and happy that I did. Thank you Gabrielle and Wyzant!Marci, 186 lessons with Gabrielle
Very Patient and Knowledgeable
Gabrielle is a very patient and observant tutor. In only two sessions she has given me so much insight in addition to the lessons. So far, my son seems to be pretty receptive to the idea of tutoring (surprisingly, and although he may not always show it). But I definitely feel Gabrielle's approach and style of teaching are contributing factors.Sheriece, 1 lesson with Gabrielle

Great Tutor and Great Program
I am very happy with Gabrielle and her program. My son will listen to her and responds well. I love that homework is assigned and optional. If I were to give my son practice pages he would be reluctant to do it. Since the assignments are from Gabrielle, he is willing to do because it is not coming from "Mom." I am very glad we found Gabrielle!Darlene, 72 lessons with Gabrielle
