Experienced university tutor in the Biological Sciences

My name is Jared and I graduated with a BS in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology from UC Santa Cruz in 2023. I had a 3.88 GPA and graduated with Cum Laude and highest honors in the major.

Growing up, I always had an affinity towards the biological sciences and pursued this passion in college. I realized that as I was a student, I wanted complete the cycle of education through teaching. I have since pursued teaching through becoming a tutor at UC Santa Cruz in general chemistry II, general chemistry III, and organic chemistry II. I also led a course at UC Santa Cruz as a teaching assistant for the upper division course METX 119L Microbiology Laboratory. After mastering the microscopic biological sciences, I pursued the macroscopic of human anatomy at Mt. Sac. I participated in the Human Prosecution Program where I dissected human cadavers and organs for anatomy students; and often gave demonstrations/lessons to anatomy students to reinforce learning.

I understand that the biological sciences can be a difficult subject to be presented with. In my time with teaching and tutoring, I have learned that often times the material is not the bottleneck but the mindset. Introduction of these mindsets is a core philosophy of how I want to approach students; that as a student you are more than capable, you just have to believe it.

I am planning to pursue medical school and hope to tutor others in my community for engagement, reflection of my values and passions, to reinforce my scientific knowledge, and most importantly to help others around me understand the beauty of the biological sciences.
