Born and raised in Chico, CA, I have always been passionate about science and education. My interests led me to earn a bachelor's (B.S.) degree in genetics and a master's (M.S.) degree in genetic counseling. My day job is as a practicing, board-certified and licensed genetic counselor where I'm heavily involved in providing education about complex science concepts to patients and clinicians of varying educational backgrounds. Being able to educate others about the topics that have fascinated me since junior high is what I have always enjoyed the most about my career.
I'm relatively new to formal tutoring, having some experience working with younger students (preschool-4th grade) in the past, but have been involved in teaching others my whole life. Science can be an incredibly overwhelming topic for students and adults alike, but it's all about finding a different way to look at the information; putting the material in a context that "clicks" for each person. I pride myself on being able to adapt my educational style to match individual learning styles.
I am very flexible with logistics (location, time, etc) and look forward to helping anyone who needs it! Please don't hesitate to message me if you have questions. AJ is tutoring our 15-year-old in chemistry and we are thrilled with his tutoring. Even our son raved about him and said he's so helpful. I would definitely recommend him.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold a B.S. in genetics and a Masters degree in genetic counseling, both of which required completion of extensive molecular and medical genetics coursework. I am a licensed genetic counselor in the State of California and board certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC).
