I started student teaching at California State University Northridge about two years ago, and instantly fell in love. I always knew that I wanted to be a teacher growing up because I was an outcast in school, and always looked to my teachers for guidance and support in school. In retrospect, they saved my adolescent life.
Currently, I tutor at the Learning Resource Center at California State University Northridge. I graduated with a degree in English, and as a current graduate student, I understand how hard work and dedication can help you achieve success. However, it can be difficult when you do not have the tools to get there.
I specialize in helping and teaching English. However, English is solely an umbrella term for everything that falls under it. I can help with anything from reading comprehension skills, writing essays, proofreading, grammar, and even reading together and brainstorming. I have a passion for literature and teaching, and this shows through my tutoring sessions. I try to keep every session laid back and fun, because learning should be fun. With this being said, I also make sure to really challenge each student at their own, individual pace so they can grow.
I try to be flexible with time, but do require a 24-hour cancellation policy. However, I also offer makeup tutoring sessions. I prefer to travel to the student's home because they feel more comfortable learning in their own element, but I am willing to travel to a local library or coffee shop if this is what they prefer. It is completely up to you!
I cannot wait to hear from all of you so we can feel more confident and happy with our learning process! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
