In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I graduated with a Degree in Environmental Sciences from UC berkeley. And I served as a physics tutor and nutrition educator during university. I am familiar with strategies to help others internalize material and improve grades.
During university, I volunteered under the Fruitful Minds program where I taught nutrition education to a class of 15 students at Longfellow Middle School. Alongside my pre-med curriculum, I was the first student to minor in food systems at the University of California, Berkeley. Through my nutrition, sociology, and plant biology courses, I was given the unique opportunity to not only understand what creates a healthy thriving individual but to also assess the sociopolitical factors that contribute to what we eat. I believe effective nutrition instruction incorporates not only an understanding of food as a source of energy but allows us to take a deeper examination of our relationship to food.
