My name is William K., and I'm currently an master's student at USC. My educational background includes graduating from Whitney High School and from University of California, San Diego with a 3.82 GPA in Biology. My career goals include eventually becoming a life coach and mental health occupational therapist.
I have numerous years of teaching experience, which includes over 5 years of tutoring and 2 years of being a teaching assistant at UCSD within the Division of Biology. I led discussion sections for thirty undergraduate students per quarter, and facilitated their grasp on the most difficult concepts in biology. This included leading midterm and final examination review sessions for more than 400 undergraduate students. In addition to aiding students, I also assisted professors with grading exams and data input. As a result, UCSD has acknowledged my efforts with the Excellence in Teaching Award.
I have always been a passionate learner but I have not always succeeded academically. I struggled in the beginning of high school but eventually developed strategies to combat my ADHD without the use of medications. I eventually it to UCSD and graduated from there with Magna Cum Laude honors and a 3.82 GPA in Biology.
I struggled with Math in the beginning of high school but since then I have received A's in all of my math courses both at the high school level and the college level where I took the entire calculus series for engineers.
Being a biology major in undergraduate school, I was exposed to a huge breadth of science. I learned a lot of theory in my classes but I also have practical science experience under my belt. At UCSD I worked on my own research project studying deubiquinating enzymes such as DOA4 and their role on cellular aging. I also worked with the Navy for eight months studying infectious airborne diseases.
Writing is a huge passion of mine and one of my special talents is knowing what is blocking someone from succeeding in this area. I am skilled in both technical essay writing as well as creative writing.
Having suffered from ADHD all my life, I know first hand how hard it is to learn. But as my own life shows, I am a firm believer that ADHD can be managed without medications. This is not me discrediting the value of ADHD medications; I believe there is a time and place for them. However, I truly believe that we are capable as human beings of conquering more than we may sometimes allow ourselves to.
If you want someone who truly understands blocks towards academic success, I am the person to contact! I am very student centered in that I work with students in goal setting and implementing evidence-based methods of achieving academic goals. Hi Everyone!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
