The most rewarding experience as a tutor is watching students learn to understand the material, that 'ah-ha' moment. Personally as a tutor, I find it most rewarding when I can fully engage my student in the subject matter by providing real world examples of how the material they are learning can be applied to everyday life. This will not only help enhance their understanding of the subject matter but will also make it more enjoyable for them to learn. Every student is different and each has his/her own way of learning, which is why it is critical to really get to know the student and then tailor the learning plan to what fits the student's needs. There is no 'cookie cutter' method for teaching. My philosophy as a tutor is to provide not only the educational support but to also be there as a mentor and to provide support and guidance in any and every capacity.

I graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering and am working towards my Master's in Biomedical Engineering. I have extensive experience (5+ years) tutoring math at the high school and college levels and have taught several subjects ranging from pre-algebra through advanced linear algebra and multi-variable calculus. Over the years, I have provided one-on-one tutoring to three students, starting with pre-algebra and worked with them over the years to develop their math skills. I have also been a tutor for general college chemistry, organic chemistry, and physical chemistry. I prefer working one on one to provide individual tutoring, but have also worked with groups of 3-5 students in a classroom setting. In addition, I also have extensive industry experience (8+ years) working as a Chemical Engineer and I am able to provide real world applications to the problems that students often encounter in their high school and college general chemistry courses.

I know what it is like to pick up a textbook only to find the examples worked out in the book or in class were far too simple and the homework problems are challenging! Sometimes it is not easy to speak up in a classroom full of students. So where do you turn to when you need help? There is one-on-one tutoring, but how do you ensure that it is right choice for you? To fully benefit from tutoring, you need to have the right tutor, one that takes time to understand your specific needs and knows how to teach the subject in a way that will get you to learn. As an experienced tutor for both math and science, I have worked directly with students both individually and also in small groups and made time to provide the extra help students needed to achieve their goals. My main goal is to provide a learning environment where the student is able to ask questions and learn the material at their own pace. I want the student to know I am here to benefit them and welcome any suggestions as to how I can improve to enhance their learning. Feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions or would like to schedule a lesson. I look forward to working together.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I have previously tutored students in Algebra I at both the high school and middle school levels in one-on-one sessions as well as group settings. A strong foundation in algebra is essential for advanced mathematics such as calculus and beyond. Therefore, it is imperative that algebra is taught in a way where the student is able to fully grasp the material. I do this by working together with the student to understand where they have difficulty and why. Once I have an idea of where the student needs help, I am able to provide the resources needed to make them feel confident in their ability to learn and succeed.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I have previously tutored students in Algebra II at both the high school and middle school levels in one-on-one sessions as well as group settings. A strong foundation in algebra is essential for advanced mathematics such as calculus and beyond. Therefore, it is imperative that algebra is taught in a way where the student is able to fully grasp the material. Calculus,

Calculus

I have over 5 years of experience tutoring students in calculus at both the high school and university levels. Topics covered included: differentiation (e.g product rule, quotient rule, chain rule), integration (e.g. integration by parts), single and multi-variable calculus, and differential equations. Most of my tutoring sessions have been on a one-one basis, although I have also provided tutoring with group study sessions.
Chemistry,

Chemistry

I have tutored students in chemistry at both the high school and university levels. Topics covered in tutoring sessions include general chemistry (e.g. stiochiometry, gas laws, kinetics and electrochemistry), organic chemistry, and physical chemistry (e.g. thermodynamics). My background is in chemical engineering, so I have a strong foundation in chemistry.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

I have previously tutored students in Pre-Algebra at both the high school and middle school levels in one-on-one sessions as well as group settings. A strong foundation in pre-algebra is essential for higher level math courses such as algebra. Therefore, it is imperative that pre-algebra is taught in a way where the student is able to fully grasp the material.
