Although I am a building contractor by trade, I have taught languages since I was 18, starting with teaching English in German Adult Education, then teaching my native German to Americans, and most recently teaching ESL in junior college. My experience teaching spans 25 years, and in this time I have had many wonderful affirmations of the work that I do.
I have a great passion for languages and have always tried to share this passion. I believe that individual tutoring is an excellent way to achieve impressive results in language learning, and it is very satisfying as an educator to see your efforts bear fruit very quickly.
As an English learner myself, I believe I have a profound insight into the challenges and rewards of learning a language. I took the TOEFL exam when I entered the university and in the last 20 years I have taught ESL grammar classes and academic writing courses at junior college level.
German is my native tongue and I have a great love for this language. I have taught German courses in high school, at junior colleges and at the university.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
