I am a graduate from the University California Riverside majoring in biology and I am currently a graduate student at the University California Santa Barbara majoring in Cellular and Molecular Biology. During the time I attended college I was employed as a Supplemental Instruction Leader for organic chemistry and concurrently I have been tutoring students in organic chemistry. The Supplemental Instruction program was designed to address classes with high fail and withdraw rates in order to improve ailing students and increase the grades of students who want to do better. My job was to hold 6 hours of sessions on a weekly basis with the subject matter catered to the lecture material. During my time teaching these sessions I have had a very positive response and have experienced excellent success. My style of teaching has been the major factor in my success. I am very adamant in allowing my students to work through problems with my guidance rather than simply giving away the answer. I believe that this is essential to learning the material so as to make the most out of the study session. I enjoy tutoring in that I can convey my passion and love for science as well as help others.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
