About Daniel

Bio

I love learning, from the most simple of things to how to make my next meal taste more delicious, to grand things regarding the functioning and inner workings of the universe. I am highly motivated for my own knowledge, and endlessly enthusiastic towards those who likewise desire to obtain knowledge. There is no field of knowledge in which I lack interest, yet my areas of mastery are music and Mandarin Chinese.

I have taught in China in a classroom for seven years and individually tutored students for periods within those seven years. I have taught from English to Mathematics to Music, all while doing so in a foreign language.

My primary goal of living in China was to master Mandarin. At that time, I not only went from being unable to speak anything in the language to complete fluency in both spoken and written forms, but also developed a deeper understanding of language and communication in general.

I have studied music for nearly 20 years. I started with guitar, in which I can play all forms and most styles with ease, yet my primary focus is on composition and improvisation. I am able to compose, record, and produce music, from classical pieces to varying genres like rock, techno, blue grass, or hip hop. My passion in life is music.

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile, I to hear from you and benefit your studious endeavors.

Music Production

Music Production

I have been writing and producing my own music for nearly 15 years. I am capable in using computer DAW's and have a thorough understanding of techniques such as midi production, audio recording, and post processing. I have produced and mixed various different styles of music for myself as well as others, from simple recordings to complex instrumentation and automation. All of the above I am able to simplify and articulate to the students, so that they can fundamentally understand the functioning and application of hardware or software, and thus effectively produce their own music.

Chinese,

Chinese

I lived in China for seven years, with studying Mandarin Chinese as my main objective. I moved to China with essentially no knowledge of the language, and was self taught for almost my entire duration of living there, with much experience coming from trial and error through interpersonal communication. Therefore, I have a very thorough understanding of both the difficulties and significant areas of knowledge in studying Chinese. I'm fluent in speaking, listening, writing, and reading, and have experience teaching to all different levels of students in both traditional and simplified forms.

I studied Statistics in relation to Economics while at UC Davis. I am familiar with written stats as well as computational statistics. I also have worked with tutoring students on college level statistics for both homework and test preparation.

Music

Guitar,

Guitar

I have played the guitar for nearly 20 years and was initially classically trained, and I have had experience of teaching students of different levels. The most successful instances were students who started not knowing how to play the instrument becoming able to play songs, improvise solos, and compose their own songs. I am versed in various forms and styles of guitar and other stringed instruments: for guitar, including classical, acoustic (6 and 12 string variants), electric guitar (6 and 7 string variants), including bass (electric and upright), as well as instruments like banjo, mandolin, and ukulele.

Songwriting,

Songwriting

I have been composing music for about 17 years, and first learned in a completely self taught manner along with some music production software. I lost count of how many songs I have written to completion, because many of them were accidentally destroyed. I have studied song writing in college, which involved fundamental classical methods in writing music. I have taught students, through guitar, how to begin producing their own songs, using methods as simple as memorization and complex using music theory to explain reason a song has a particular song.

Alma , 3 lessons with Daniel

Very flexible and keeps my daughter engaged.

Hired Daniel to pick up my slack when I ran out of time homeschooling my fourth-grade daughter. He is cranking through math with her and making solid progress on science. He is working hard to adapt his style to best suit her way of learning and to keep her engaged, and he is very generous with his time. We really appreciate all he's done!
