As a Credentialed Teacher in both Special Education and Elementary Education with a background as a Teacher and School Administrator, I bring 20 years experience to working with students to help them achieve success and learn strategies based on their areas of strength while they learn to compensate for and strengthen weaker areas. I possess an MS in Education (Special Education) and have been working as an Educational Therapist/Tutor in Orange County CA since 1998.
Remediation - Students work to strengthen underlying processing areas (visual, auditory, memory, attention) that are impacting attainment of academic skills and learning (i.e. phonemic awareness, executive function, visual-spatial processing). Multi-sensory research based techniques present material in a sequential and systematic program designed to meet the needs of the individual student.
Reading and Written Expression Intervention - Students are provided a multi-sensory approach based on individual program goals identified through assessment. Students are able to achieve rapid growth in the areas of Literacy Development, Reading (Decoding, Comprehension, Fluency) and Writing (Penmanship, Pre- writing with Graphic Organizers, Thought Development, Writing, and Revising) in short amount of time. Providing direct one-on-one instruction targeted to the area of need at the student’s individual instruction level develops skills quickly and efficiently.
Strategic Learning - The student’s school assignments are used as the foundation materials to teach learning strategies that encourage the student learn to rely on strengths while developing tools to overcome their weaker areas. The student learns to self-advocate in their approach to assignments in homework as well as in classroom acquisition of learning.
Academic Coaching - Individual or small group support for Homeschool Students, On-line Education Students, or students enrolled in traditional school programs. Supervision, instruction in development of strong study skills and oversight of assignment completion is provided in a positive, encouraging style. Parents can take a step back from direct interaction with schoolwork/homework as their student relies on the Academic Coach in this role.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
