Excellent tutor, very patient, goes through homework step by step and helps you do homework problems. Does a lot of prep work for tutoring sessions, will answer homework questions over the phone or email PDF's with math problems worked out free of charge. With John's help I aced my last calculus midterm and continue to improve with my homework.

I can't tell you how proud I am of John's efforts. On his first test after we starting working together he got a 92 which was subsequently "curved up" to 96.5%!! Wow! It's exciting to see such dramatic improvement! He was carrying an overall strong B after a third exam and I think he was on his way to getting an A on the final and perhaps getting an A overall. Then the instructor suddenly cancelled the final. John was very happy to not take the final and get his B. Of course I wanted him to have the shot at an "A"!

He explains and he works the math step by step with you very well and gets straight to the point. No time is wasted at all. A lot of work and a lot is learned in as little time as an hour. Definitely recommend this tutor.

John O. helped me pass my statistics class and excel beyond what I thought was possible. I understood nothing about statistics before coming to John. He's good at explaining the problems in a variety of ways. He's always prepared and goes the extra mile to make sure you completely understand the material. It's difficult reaching out to a stranger for help, but with John you will feel completely at ease.

John has helped our son improve his Physics and AP Stats grades. He encourages our son to think about and solve problems, providing guidance and expertise as needed, but having him work through the problems in a methodical manner so that he learns the material. John is prepared and knows the subject matter. He has assisted with learning the jargon that comes with the subjects and teaches the student how to understand the text material. John responded to our tutoring request in a timely manner, and has been flexible in scheduling sessions. We would highly recommend him as a tutor!

I have used John O. briefly and wish I would have found him earlier. He is a phenomenal tutor and knows exactly how to connect with students and to really make sure the student understands the material.

John works through assignments with the student helping them to reason out problems on their own with little assistance. He is patient and adds humor where appropriate while he shows the student how Statistics can relate to everyday life. He provides insight and helps the student to relate various elements of Statistics so that problems no longer seem impossible. He offers various study skills and techniques in order to help the student retain and gain confidence.

I am about 30 years older than most of John's students, but he was very patient with my slow rate of grasping the math concepts I used to know. I hired John to help me study for the GRE and I now feel much more confident going into the test.

John is a great tutor and extremely experienced with teaching students. He is very knowledgeable with Physics and shows my child clear steps to solve problems. He is quick with all of his emails, goes above and beyond, and provides extra practice problems as well. Couldn't be happier so far and looking forward to using him for my son for other subjects in high school!

My son needed some review for an upcoming college placement exam and John went above and beyond to answer and review areas that needed help and to develop a plan for our son to prepare more on his own. John even supplied extra materials of what they covered and follow up communication. I would highly recommend John as a tutor he does everything he can to give the student the tools to succeed.

John was quick to communicate with me regarding my needs and available time. He is an organized, patient and understanding tutor. He makes my son understand geometry by simplifying and breaking it down until he understands it. After only two sessions my son started to get confidence in his ability to figure out geometry problems. I recommend him highly.

Emma's son is a bright young man that is eager to learn. He catches on very quickly and is "learning about learning" as much as he learning about geometry. He's a pleasure to work with.

We were extremely impressed by John. He was so flexible- which was very important with our busy schedule. He called back right with his availability. My daughter got an A on her quiz after his first session. John produces results!

Let me be clear - this student produces results - my role is to position her to do well. So kudos to this student for her hard work and producing results.

My son has been working with John for 2 months in AP Physics. John is a dedicated teacher and really wants his students to do well. He provides additional problems to better understand the chapters. He is accessible via email/txt/phone and makes sure he has time available each week for his student. He is an excellent tutor.

This physics student is a dedicated student. Responsible and keeps up with homework.

My daughter was struggling in AP Statistics and John O. was great about reviewing the material ahead of time so the tutoring session was spent productively. He helped her gain a better understanding of the material and how to study to improve her grade in the class. We would recommend him as a tutor.

Renae's daughter is now on to college - very bright in many subjects (athlete too) and tackled a significant number of AP classes. She will go on to great success.

John is very knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to statistics. It is clear that he is passionate about helping students learn the ropes. He puts in lots of effort and makes himself available to students when needed! I highly recommend John for your statistic needs!

Gina is a committed student. She works hard at understanding and attempting problems. When we are together, she has specific questions on specific problems. Once we run out of those, we're picking the most difficult problems to work together. By the way, Gina doesn't exactly love math. But she knows she's gotta do what she's gotta do. This is a great attitude! She will go far in life with her attitude and willingness to work.

We are so happy to have met John, and we give him our highest recommendation!

Thanks to John, my daughter's grade has already improved, she has a new approach to studying, and she finally feels confident with the material.

Not only does he really know his Algebra, but he is patient and willing to repeat problems until my daughter masters the lesson. I think it really helps that he is a father of a daughter that he coached through math all the way through high school, and I know he tutors students throughout the area with great success.

To boot, he is very accommodating with scheduling.

We are so pleased!

Teresa's daughter is smart, motivated and "coachable". She is a tutor's best case scenario. I am doing a good job as her tutor - but just as or even more important is her response to the tutoring and it is OUTSTANDING! So kudos to this algebra student. I see many "A's" in her future. Though she has already had quizzes with improved grades - she has a test coming up and I can't wait to see the smile on her face and spring in her step after she scores highly on that test!

We homeschool and were having challenges with our son learning more advanced subject matter. It was clear we needed a Tutor to support what we were doing at home. We are so happy we found John!

John has the rare combination of subject mastery and the ability to connect the content to the person. My son is very reserved and shy, but John was able to help him enjoy learning the material and pull him out of his shell as well. My son has been an honor roll student his whole life, but John has helped us see why it's is so important to add supplemental instruction for our son. We are now considering expanding what he is doing with our one son, to all three children. John rocks and I highly highly recommend him to any parent!

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

The best preparation is to purchase a ACT Prep Guide and work through it. The more practice tests it contains the better.

The strategy is to work the practice tests - use each practice as a "cycle of learning" opportunity. The student works with the tutor on every incorrect answer.

I tutor the student on each incorrect answer: 1) fundamentals behind the problem, 2) how to quickly eliminate answers, 3) common tricks and mistakes, and 4) other ways this topic might be asked in a problem.

The student is instructed to prioritize the help they need based on difficulty to them .

I help students to understand how to solve each problem in the context of a mult. choice test. How to save time - and sometimes not have to fully calculate the problem. The combination of math understanding and "number sense" is powerful for these type of tests.

Algebra is like breathing to me. It is fundamental to all math and science that follows. I enjoy helping students become "fluent" in algebra.

At this level math teachers expect more and have less patience. I'll help you break it down into manageable understandable pieces.

I love calculus. Math is cumulative - it is no different than with calculus. The challenge is learning the new "Calculus way" of looking at functions (instantaneous changes/slopes, areas under curves, etc.), while still getting a heavy dose of Algebra II, Trig and Geometry. It would be a privilege to help you with this classic math class.

Since math is cumulative, elementary math is crucial to future success. It's a FOUNDATION! I don't know if your "tutoring dollars" can be spent more wisely. It's important to help your child develop "number sense."

After an intro to algebra, suddenly students are asked to think spatially and logically in terms of proofs. This can really throw students for a loop. I help them understand the basis of definitions and proofs. Once they understand the "why"; then the tips and techniques of problem-solving make sense and are internalized. I would enjoy helping your student ace their geometry tests!

Extensive experience tutoring physics/AP Physics. Huge library of worked problems - perfect to illustrate how to solve problems and extra practice for chapter exams and the AP Physics Test.

Algebra is critical to all math/science that follows. Often students struggle with algebra because of "weak formation" in arithmetic when they arrive.

THEREFORE, prealgebra is so critical - very smart to get help at this time!

Love pre-calculus and helping students strengthen their skills before calculus. It would be an honor to assist.

Probability, like Geometry, is a unique area of math & more challenging than most realize. I can help you get by the most common stumbling blocks.

Statistics is one of the most important areas of math and used extensively for anyone going into a science or professional practice like marketing or psychology. Even engineers who study more math than any major other than math majors, must take statistics. I can help you increase your understanding and grades.

I counsel students (and parents) on test preparation, homework completion, time management/calendaring, working with the instructor, working with other students, working extra problems to achieve "fluency" and confidence - among many other related topics. I also did the same for my own daughter who is about to graduate high school. This included younger children struggling to focus on homework exhausted in the evening.

An additional resource is the internet where often solved problems can be found to help with current homework or extra practice problems with answers.

I was such a "math nerd" that I took trig and pre-calculus algebra the summer between my junior and senior years in high school so that I could take calculus as a senior. I will enjoy making trig much easier for you.
