Hi! My name is Allison. I am a Cardiff native that understands the curriculum for the local schools. I have many relationships with teachers in the Cardiff/Encinitas area. I've been a tutor since high school and have tons of experience in helping students succeed by using their strengths and relating subjects to their interests. My specialty is helping students research and write history papers but I also can get a student organized for studying for a major test. My best subject is World History. I received my degree from UCSD in East Asian History. My interest and specialty is in Ancient Japan. I speak a little Japanese so I may be able to tutor in that subject as well. I also have a strong background in theatre so I can help students with public speaking for their presentations, or help an acting student prepare a monologue. I also was trained in graduate school for the easiest and best way to write a thesis statement for papers, so I can help with writing English papers or college applications.
I had a 3.75 GPA in both high school, college, and graduate school level. I am not strong in math and science but I could be sufficient at an elementary school level. I'm really good at relating to kids and spent my high school years tutoring junior high kids in English and math. I also tutored my peers in History during high school and I was a paid tutor in college and graduate school. My teaching style is very creative. I use PowerPoint presentations, flash cards, and play memory games with students. I like to make learning as fun as possible. I am very enthusiastic about making history a fun subject.
I am free to travel to a location of your choice and I have a lot of regular availability as I am taking a break from school to prepare for getting a degree in museum studies.
I look forward to passing down my knowledge of study skills to your child, and I know they will not only learn something but also have fun too! Hi! My name is Allison. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
When I studied at Community College I received my Associates Degree in Human and Behavioral Sciences. This degree requires that you take several Anthropology classes. I took Biological Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology, and I even took a class on Evolution vs. Creationism. I have many reference texts from these classes and I am confident that I could teach on this subject.
At University of California San Diego I had a minor in World Religions. I specifically studied Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, Islam, Apocalyptic Christianity and European Witchcraft religions. I have a vast collection of reference materials on these subjects and I am confident that I can tutor on this subject.
I've been acting since I was in Junior high. I performed in 7 plays in high school ranging from Shakespeare to Musicals. I also took seven classes on theatre in high school. In college I performed in two major productions including playing the role as the Angel in Angels in America by Tony Kushner. I also took classes on movement, musical theatre, voice, and I worked closely with the viewpoints method. Since college I have performed in local children's theatre plays.
World history is my best subject. I've been tutoring in this area for over 10 years. I got my degree in Asian history but I am educated in several areas of world history. Besides Asia I have taken a wide variety of classes in Middle Eastern, African, and European history.
I have a large library of books on this subject as well. I am especially good at helping students do research and write papers. I am very enthusiastic about this subject and my goal is to make history fun, which in turn makes more successful students.
