Hi there! I've been in your shoes before, and finding a tutor can be confusing and get really pricey. I try to maintain an hourly rate that makes finding a tutor feasible for average people. If you or your family is currently going through serious financial problems, message me and I'd be happy to discuss an alternative rate with you.

Hi there! I've been in your shoes before, and finding a tutor can be confusing and get really pricey. I try to maintain an hourly rate that makes finding a tutor feasible for average people. If you or your family is currently going through serious financial problems, message me and I'd be happy to discuss an alternative rate with you.

I graduated with a Computational Cognitive Sciences degree from UCI in 2019. Cognitive Science is my passion! It is basically the study of cognition (thinking). It uses neuroscience to understand how the brain learns and remembers, and much more.

Math has always been my best subject and my tutoring career started out just as me helping friends in math but slowly expanded to become my full-time job as more and more people asked for my help. I began to tutor in other subjects as well and now also work with students on test preparation (ACT, SAT, GED...) Not only do I know these subjects very well, but my studies have helped me to be able to tailor my approach to each student individually. It's been quite clear to me that the same approach does not work for every student.

With 10+ years of experience, I am comfortable catering to all types of learning styles even special needs and also can quickly recognize any gaps the student has (many students have them often due to poor teachers from earlier subjects). I can help any student and hopefully help them realize learning isn't so bad after all!

Thank you,
Evan C.

Statistics

Statistics

Statistics is a very unique subject. I view it as completely separate from mathematics. Most real statistics is done with computer programs. through research at school I've had experience with Matlab, python, spss etc. Due to the archaic nature of bureaucracy, many schools still focus on teaching handwritten statistics, which I have spent many years reviewing with students. For statistics like hypothesis testing, Anova, F test, chi Square, etc. I'm happy to help students for it a reasonable rate!

Elementary Education

Elementary Math

Elementary Math

The fundamentals- what a child learns at this level is the main factor in determining their later success in mathematics. It is absolutely essential to master the basics before moving forward. I absolutely love working with elementary students, as they have few or no bad habits to unlearn. I am familiar with the California course curriculum and there are many useful resources to help give students additional insight and practice on these topics. Please don't hesitate to message me with any questions you may have.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

With 7+ years experience in tutoring algebra as well as standardized test preparation (ACT/SAT etc) helping clients master algebra has been one of my main priorities. Students with weak algebra inevitability struggle in later maths and ideally helping students master algebra leaves them in a situation where they wont require a tutor for later maths. As with all subjects, I also focus on note-taking, studying strategy, and test-taking strategy. My current studies in the cognitive sciences allow me to incorporate the current scientific body of knowledge on human learning, memory, and decision-making into these strategies.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is the most important math class for the majority of students. The basics learned here apply to many classes after this one. Many of the students I meet with struggling in calculus or precalculus actually just have weak algebra. Personally, I've applied algebra towards multiple calculus courses, and coding- Python and Matlab. Professionally I've been tutoring in algebra for 9 years now, and would be happy to help you too! Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Calculus,

Calculus

Initially started with calc AB in high school, then took all calculus courses at UCI before moving on to focus on linear algebra / machine learning / software. Been teaching calculus for 10 years now- quite a large portion of students in calculus are struggling because their algebra is suboptimal. There are also some students who struggle with calculus concepts, but this is an easier fix. The general strategy and approach to solving calculus questions differs greatly from mathematics students have taken in the past. These concepts, strategies, and algebra skills are the main focus for calculus students.
Geometry,

Geometry

Geometry, while very different than algebra/trig/precalc, is still essential for academic success. Its topics are covered on college entrance exams and form the basis for many important ideas in later mathematics. With 10 years experience tutoring geometry, I'd be happy to help you too! I offer a trial lesson to prospective students so we can be certain it's a good fit before working together. Best of luck with your studies!
Precalculus,

Precalculus

Some of the most difficult calculus concepts are actually taught in pre-calculus, and these totally foreign ideas can be very difficult even for the best of students. Doing well in pre-calculus, especially in honors pre-calculus, requires an advanced mastery of algebra along with great organizational skills and study habits. I've been helping students in pre-calculus for almost a decade and would be happy to help you too! Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

ACT Math

With a 32 ACT score as a high school student, I did fairly well on the exam itself. Since then I have studied human cognitive function, memory, and test taking strategies. This has helped me reach the next level in helping my clients prepare for their exams. Every client I've worked with so far in the last six years on SAT and ACT prep has improved their score.

Hello! The relationships between lengths and angles of triangles that students learn in trigonometry can be challenging in and of themselves. Knowledgeable and patient.

Even helped me with my statistic assignment. He gave me recourses and tips on how to improve my skills. It was great to have a live person talked me through my work and have the patience to explain things to me.

We love working with Evan

Evan is patient, knowledgeable, and dedicated. My son is learning a lot and we appreciate all of the help that Evan is providing. We are just getting started but I already see a change in my son's attitude towards math.

So glad we made this decision

Evan is very relatable. He clearly knows his stuff and he gets right to the heart of the challenges as soon as he gets here. He communicates on a positive level and lets the student know that he really wants them to succeed. Very pleased.

Patient and knowledgeable, great advice for how to learn math effectively and learning why concepts work.

Taught me how to organize my work properly and make sure I show each step in order to understand my work better. Answered my long awaited questions about logarithms.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor.

I hired Evan for my son taking college engineering statistics class. Evan was awesome! My son went from failing the class the semester before to earning a 96% on his first test and went on to pass the class easily. Evan related extremely well and absolutely knows the subject matter. Not only that, but Evan understands the psychology of students who struggle with stats as well as understands all the tactics and bad habits they employ and is able to coach them into better habits and expectations. You cannot go wrong with Evan! We are very, very relieved.

Great Statistics Tutor and very patient!

Evan is helping my daughter prepare for her Statistics final. He mapped out the grades she needs to get on her up coming tests to pass the class which was very helpful. They covered the current section she is working on. Reviewing concepts she did not understand also giving her confidence by reinforcing the material she did know. He gave her some great tips for studying. My daughter now feels she will successfully pass the class. We are very fortunate to have found Evan. I would definitely recommend Evan he is amazing! I have already told friends and family to check out Wyzant for their tutoring needs.
