I currently tutor in the mathematics department at CSUN and tutored the developmental math program helping incoming freshman gain confidence in themselves to execute the basic fundamentals of math. I tutored last fall and currently tutoring in the Math Lab with higher levels of math. I have previous experience in teaching when I coached a basketball city league team, and to me good teaching skills and practices translates to all subjects, as I would teach basketball the same way I teach math....

I tutored last fall and currently tutoring in the Math Lab with higher levels of math. I have previous experience in teaching when I coached a basketball city league team, and to me good teaching skills and practices translates to all subjects, as I would teach basketball the same way I teach math.

I understand the necessity for the fundamentals and that math is a skill, not a given talent. It takes persistence and practice. Since my father is a mathematician himself, I have a different perspective on how math is learned and taught.

I have played basketball competitively since I was eight years old and have played for, worked with numerous professionals who have bestowed knowledge on to me. I played all high school and had a short career at the junior college level. I believe because of my youth I can relate to a lot of young players which helps when trying to communicate to them.

If I could describe my teaching style it would light and calm. I believe students respond better to positive reinforcement and when mistakes are made, it's about working with the student and working them through the process and having the gain confidence in their own ability so they can perform.
