In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am well-versed in working with students with special needs and with adults. Having experience with developmentally disabled youngsters and foster children with educational issues and behavioral challenges including ADD/ADHD gives me a unique perspective. I have experience with individuals with Autism and Aspergers through work with Arkansas Children's Hospital and within the foster care system. I am a trained speaker and group facilitator with over 10 years' experience in front of audiences of all sizes and ages in both casual and professional settings. Presentations have lasted anywhere from a few minutes to full day sessions. I have also been involved in interviews for print media as well as television and radio and have also participated in the Toastmasters public speaking group as well. I am well equipped to help others gain the confidence to speak in front of an audience.
I am an avid reader and carry a book with me at all times. I read to learn and read for recreation. I welcome the opportunity to help students of all ages broaden their capabilities so they too can appreciate and enjoy this critical skill.
