I am currently the Science Department Chair at a College Prep High School in LaCanada. Undergraduate – Bachelors of science Loyola University, Los Angeles, prior to the merge to create LMU. Graduate degree, Georgetown University school of medicine, Washington DC. Passed the national Board of medical examiners in 1973. I teach the biological sciences! I do not allow my biological expertise to be clouded with a multitude of other disciplines that I am capable of teaching. There is nobody more expert than myself when it comes to educating students in the biologies, weather It's the earlier courses in the straight biological sciences, or the more defined sciences of biochemistry, anatomy, physiology. It all falls under the realm of biology, and that's what I have taught for the past 28 years.
I reside in Santa Clarita, and I am willing to tutor starting now! I am credentialed in the state of California and a proud member of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) and the California Science Teacher Association (CSTA). I presently teach Biology, Honors Biology and AP Biology.
I have been the yearbook recipient of the best teacher award, the toughest and most demanding teacher award, and the student bodies favorite teacher award, all in in the same year on a number of occasions. 90% of my AP Biology students pass the college board exam, although I have had years with a 100% pass rate averaging well above a 4 on the College Board exam. Additionally, I was hired by Stanley H Kaplan, himself, to teach the course, "How to pass the MCAT", The medical College admission test. We had more successes than all of the other courses combined. I love one on one and small group tutoring. This is the best way the curriculum can be delivered so that it meets the exacting needs of the individual students being tutored. My rate is negotiable depending on the travel distance, the number of hours, and the number of students. Example: 2 students, 10 hours, would be $35 an hour per student.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I enjoyed and passed the Gross Anatomy course at Georgetown School of Medicine. I spent over 800 hours dissecting the human cadaver. Our practicum exam consisted of 525 pins, all stuck in a different structure, substructure, canal, carbuncle, ridge, insertion or origin point. My grade was 523/525. I have used my knowledge of anatomy extensively over the course of my career. Comparative anatomy: fish, amphibian, reptile, bird and mammal; are extremely important and certainly an area of my expertise. I have many exciting and fun resources to help facilitate the tutoring.
There is not a person alive more knowledgeable and more excited about biology than myself. I have a plethora of study aids, test generators, and animations to help my students master biology.
