Bio

Hello, My name is Oliver! I studied Sociology, History and Art at University of Redlands! I attended a unique education program where students had a close relationship with professors. It is through this, that I formed my approach to teaching. I allow every student to have some degree of control over their learning, either through subject matter (ex. Math word problems may feature Pokemon, or Paw Patrol), or by personalizing my approach based upon student learning preferences.

I'm thrilled to be able to reach students in their time of need, when school might be a little tough. I believe in making learning fun through play. I work hard both in and out of learning sessions to tailor learning experiences to the individual. I am able to help with homework, and also work on subjects that are causing struggles. It's my goal that every student leaves wanting to learn more, and with the resources to do so.

I have over four years of experience working with students with disabilities both in the classroom, and one-on-one. My primary learning disability experience is with students aged 8-12 with dyslexia, and students starting middle school with ADHD. I approach learning disabilities from the ground up, by starting on early skills, such as letter formation, and capitals and lowercase letters. This approach has helped to build self-esteem by being able to show students their growth!

I am able to help your student of any age learn to read or write, starting from the most basic, and onto writing a college admissions essay. With strong research skills, I can bring your reluctant reader the perfect book, and work with them on their letter sounds, or their comprehension. For your writer, I can approach writing in a well-paced fun manner. I have done one-on-one writing sessions in both creative fiction and essay for teens. For students getting ready for college, I'm happy to work on specific and focused skills, from grammar to writing organization.

I have also spent two years as a one-on-one English Li

My experience as a tutor for ADHD needs comes from two years of weekly work with several students, and a lifetime of my family needs! I have a Bachelors in Sociology, and have worked in three levels of Special Education classrooms as an aide. I have experience with attention and focus building, and individual planning for student growth.
Dyslexia

Dyslexia

After studying Sociology at University of Redlands, I began work at a library, where I have had the chance to assist dyslexic readers of all ages. I have the ability to think on my feet to make reading and computer usage accessible. I have knowledge of adaptable reading practices, fonts, and activities that create long term growth in dyslexic students. Through my years in the classroom, and in the homes of students, I have gained over two years of experience working one-on-one with dyslexic youth.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I have over three years of one-on-one tutoring experience with Elementary aged students, and 20 college units in Early Childhood Education and Child Psychology. I earned a degree from University of Redlands in Sociology. Additionally, I have worked as an aide in K-6th classrooms for more than five years, and worked one on one with students outside of school on homework beyond those. I have strong knowledge on grade level learning standards, and keep up to date on local standards as they apply to my students.
