About Douglas

My name is Douglas Throop and I am a current attendant of Pepperdine University. I major in religious studies and creative writing. I work for the University Campus Ministry Office as an office manager which is a joy and a delight. After completing my Bachelor’s degree I hope work part time while saving up in order to pursue a masters in dispute resolution and conflict management. I have taken a variety of courses in the religion, humanities and creative writing division including World Religions, American History and Novel Writing with a cumulative GPA of 3.44. One of my greatest achievements from high school was a perfect 800 on the reading section of my first SAT.
My mastery of subject matter in the humanities transfers well in other disciplines as well. I have taken courses in film, Hebrew, teacher education, and even dance. I am confident and assured in my ability to teach and share everything that I have learned with others. I worked with elementary school students as a camp counselor for 4 years through high school. I also worked one on one with students individually for two years tutoring them in subjects such as Math, History and Science. In the Summer times during my undergrad I volunteered with the mission’s organization Let’s Start Talking as an English teacher for non-native speakers. I am very easy to relate to and have a good sense of humor. I really work for clarity and full understanding and want to truly see that you fully understand the concept. Learning is a process and it takes time to digest the concepts, ask your own questions and arrive at your own unique conclusions. As a tutor I focus on building concepts and practices that will allow you to master any subject matter rather than simply filling your head with knowledge.
One of my most obvious talents as a tutor is structuring a comfortable learning environment. One of my goals in every tutoring session is to create a comfortable environment conducive to your unique learning process. During our sessions I will get to know you and learn your unique patterns and traits. In the preparation of our lessons I take this into account as I uniquely tutor the lesson to you. Whether you are pursuing deeper knowledge in a field you are already familiar with or you need some help for a last minute test, I am confident I can help you succeed!

I look forward to working with you.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I played High School Varsity Basketball until injuring myself halfway through my Junior year. Since that period I have spent extensive time with specific skill training, including shooting, dribbling, defense, and offensive techniques. I specialize in the training of point guards and shooting guards.
