I am a teacher that graduated cum laude from the University of Maryland with a bachelor's degree in government and politics/philosophy. My minor was writing. I am a member of Phi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Society. I remain a political scientist. I was a teacher for over 25 years in the public school system and hold credentials in mathematics, the English language arts, and the social sciences. I am an author of, "Algebra Fundamentals for Ultrasound Techs: A Student's Guide."
It is not enough to know mathematics...you must know HOW to teach mathematics. In this arena, I am very strong having taken over 10 classes in the methodologies of teaching mathematics and language arts.
Furthermore, I insist that all of my students be organized, take notes, and be logical and neat when taking notes. I insist that my students always be asking the most important question of all questions..."WHY?" And before I can solve a problem, I must be able to define exactly what the problem is.
I taught middle school and high school when I was a teacher in the public school system. Before I retired, I decided that I wanted to continue to teach privately. From my years of experience, I realized that most of the problems began in elementary school. Since 2013, I have successfully taught children from 1st grade to 8th grade with specialization in defining exactly what the problem is that your child may be having. From there, it is a short time before the problem is finally resolved. Many of my students were to be placed in remedial math and by the end of the school year had advanced to honors math.
I excel in finally lifting the "Veil of Mystification" that has been enshrouding the parents and, most importantly, the child.
I have exceptional abilities in phonemic awareness. I am able to teach English the correct way and that means not only phonemic awareness but the Greek and Latin roots...the foundation of the English language.
I am able to pinpoint the exact weakness in reading such as: Cause and Effect, Character Descriptions, Character Traits, Context Clues, Drawing Conclusions, Fact and Opinion, Figurative Language, Literature, Main Idea, Making Inferences, Point of View, and Story Elements.
My minor in college was WRITING so I am very strong in effectively teaching writing as well as grammar. Even though I am a successful mathematics, language arts, and social sciences teacher, I believe that teaching writing is the most difficult of all of the subjects. Selecting the appropriate vocabulary is quite easy. What is difficult is deciding what supporting details ultimately SUPPORT YOUR THESIS. And how do the supporting details "connect" with each other? Most people are not aware of this but in the English language, the form of our writing, i.e., the way we write the paper, is as important as what we are writing in the paper. I am extremely competent in teaching writing from the thesis, main ideas, supporting detail, linking the main ideas, properly research and finding relevancy in the research, to the conclusion. Your reader will want to read what you have written because very quickly they become aware that you have something important to say. In the final analysis, this is all that matters.
I get along famously with all children and adults regardless of their age. I have a unique ability to communicate effectively with children and adults. I am able to show parents WHY their child is having difficulty. And I am able to show parents HOW we will have their child not only "catch up" but EXCEL!
All of the students that I have taught to sit for the ISEE OR HSPT were immediately accepted into the school of their choice. Many of them received scholarships.
As for the ASVAB, most of the students that I have taught came to me after they tried 1-2 times to take the ASVAB and scored so low that their dreams of entering the US Armed Forces seemed to be slipping away. After teaching these find young men and women, without exception, all that took the ASVAB scored high enough that entrance into the military was a given.
Your Choice...If you want the "VEIL OF MYSTIFICATION" to be finally LIFTED from yourself and/or your child...Let me know...Yasmin
