I've been a professional photographer for 25 years and have owned and operated my photography studio for 20 years. As a photography tutor I will bring all those years of photography experience, skill and know-how into what I teach and show my students.
Alongside my love of photography is my love of teaching photography. Through the years I have trained, taught and mentored countless students, individuals and already established professional photographers, many of whom went on to pursue careers in photography or exhibit their photography in art shows or compete in various photography contests and win awards.
To many, learning photography can be a daunting challenge as there's a lot to know, both technically and artistically. But I've learned that no two people learn the same way or at the same pace. As a tutor I'm able to recognize what each of my students strengths or weaknesses are and steer how and what I teach them accordingly. My approach is highly personalized to each individual student and their needs.
I start with teaching the essential basics of photography, like aperture vs shutter, the meaning of ISO's, metering, etc. I also teach the basic principles of art in photography, like composition, light, form, mood, etc. I have vast experience in many types of photography; From portraiture to landscape to fine art to photo-journalism, so I can give insight and instruction for any or all of these genres for students interested in focusing on a particular field or type of photography.
I believe that learning should be enjoyable and inspiring, no matter the subject. I bring an enthusiastic, light hearted, patient and open approach to teaching. I assure you that as your tutor you will learn the essential basics of photography and apply it and excel in it like you may have always dreamed of.
My knowledge and skill as a photographer has qualified me for many wonderful opportunities. This knowledge and skill is what I teach and show my students. My photography is published in several books and magazines and featured as the cover shot of many CD covers. I have photographed celebrities from David Bowie to Brad Garrett. My photography is registered in the Library Of Congress and I'm an appointed member to the Photography Advisory Board of Mt.San Antonio College.
Upon contacting me, let me know what about photography you want to learn, whether it's something specific or learning the very basics. All lessons are done on location, either at your home or on the field. This will be determined when we talk. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
