About Annabelle

Hello,

My name is Annabelle, and I would love to be your tutor! Teaching is one of the most fulfilling things I have taken part in. It is an opportunity for everyone involved to learn.

I have earned a double major in Art History and Psychology with a minor is Visual Arts. I have taught a multi-medium art class to children for 3 years and tutored English essay writing to one client for about a year while earning my degree. My areas of expertise include genre Art History, General Psychology, Psychology of Happiness, Environmental Psychology, Philosophy and Ethics, Social Justice, Art Writing/Evaluation, Drawing (with graphite, charcoal, or ink), Painting (watercolor is my specialty, though I have worked with acrylic and oil as well), Beginning Sculpting, Beginning Ceramics with pottery wheel, other beginning visual arts, English, Writing, and beginning Reading.

For fun - and hopefully one day as an additional career - I am a musician, though my primary career goal is to become a professor.

I have taught English for a year to an Iranian student who had great concepts in mind, but needed help formulating them correctly. While studying abroad, it was often my role (the native English Speaker) to clarify grammatical or punctuation nuances in English. I read every day and really enjoy writing research articles, stories and poetry.

I spent the last 3 years teaching various art lessons, coming up with instructions primarily myself. I have a minor in Visual Arts, and studied in Holland for a semester where I took a masters course on museum restoration and analysis. I have studied Art History first-hand independently throughout Europe and Turkey, and in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York. I have worked on mural projects in Manhattan and helped to bridge the social gap of a homeless population in San Francisco by working with them on mural-painting projects as well.

Please contact me with any questions you may have! I look forward to hearing from you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Drawing

I have taken a few drawing classes in high school, and took an advanced drawing course in university at Dominican University of CA (near San Francisco). I have taught a general art course to children from the ages of 9-12 for 3 years and drawing is the foundation of all art, even 3D art. In order to teach the array of multi-medium lessons I came up with, it was compulsory that I know how to draw.

Painting

I have taken mixed medium art courses in high school which included painting, but I have also taken a watercolor course at university level at Dominican University of CA. I also taught an after school watercolor course to 5th graders, and during the 3 years that I taught a mixed-medium art course to 9-12-year-olds, we did about 6 watercolor lessons. I have studied color theory and can explain not only the characteristics of color blending, but also the psychological tones and physiological ways in which humans interpret such colors (I have earned a double major in Art History and Psychology with a minor in Visual Arts).
