I have been a middle school and elementary school teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District for 33 years. I retired 4 years ago. I taught math and science to 6th-grade honors students. I was Teacher of the Year with the Fulfillment Fund in 2000, received the California Association for the Gifted (CAG) Distinguished Service Award for Los Angeles County in 2004, am in the Who's Who of America's Teachers for 2004 and 2005 and am also on the Honor Roll of Outstanding American Teachers for 2005-2006.
I was the Lead Advisor for the Mathematics, Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) program for 18 years. We started with 12 students and in my last year had over 120 students in the program. We won more medals than any other MESA program in Southern California. Also I was a Coach for the Middle School Science Bowl Team for my school. We won the Los Angeles Regional Science Bowl and went to the National Finals.
I always introduced hands-on projects to enhance my science instruction. My students participated in simulated launches to the moon, Mars and an Asteroid.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I recently took the CBEST and received scores of 67 for Reading, 69 for Math and 47 for Writing. I studied extensively using online sources and the The Princeton Review "Cracking the CBEST-3rd Edition". I taught 4th and 5th grades at Loreto Street Elementary School for 14 years and 6th grade honors classes at Nightingale Middle School for 18 years. Both schools are in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
