About Vahe

I believe that a student must understand every aspect of the material instead of basing their studies on memorization alone. With that in mind, my favorite question when tutoring is the simple "Why?", to which I am more than delighted to answer!
I have been in the G.A.T.E. program from third to eighth grade, have completed over 12 Honors and Advanced Placement courses throughout high school, and have conquered the SAT, scoring in the 96th percentile. I am currently a UCLA graduate with a B.S. in Biochemistry. I believe that with proper guidance and a little bit of effort, any student can truly excel in academics. I have hundreds of tutoring hours under my belt, with students ranging from elementary level to my own peers. In my experience, I have found that the most effective technique of tutoring is to find what really works for an individual and mold a custom method, as no two students are the same.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra is one of my favorite subjects, as I do not go a day without using algebra in my academic studies. It is also the first subject I tutored to a good friend of mine in 7th grade, and it has a special place in my heart. I have tutored countless students in algebra, and know it like the back of my own hand.

Biology

Chemistry

I have taken and passed over 16 college courses in varying aspects of chemistry, as a person studying biochemistry should. It is one of my strongest subjects. I have tutored many students in varying difficulties of chemistry throughout my educational pursuits.

Chess

I was a member of the All American Association Chess Club, also known as "Triple A", for over 7 years. I have an inactive USCF rating of 1937, with many tournaments under my belt, including a second place finish in the 2010 Western States National Open in Las Vegas in the U1600 section.

English

I have taken three college level courses in English and have ranked among the top in all three classes. I have tutored foreign students at my school in grammar and writing, and have gained considerable experience from those sessions.

Geometry

Being a biochemistry major, I use math on a daily basis, including geometry. Whether it is a physics problem involving volumes or finding distances using the Pythagorean theorem, geometry is a handy subject that I am skilled in, and that I have lots of experience tutoring in.

Grammar

I have taken three college level courses in English and have ranked among the top in all three classes. I have tutored foreign students at my school in grammar and writing, and have gained considerable experience from those sessions.

Study Skills

I have maintained above a 3.8 GPA throughout my entire educational pursuits. The proper study skills are a vital component of a student's success, and I can share the techniques I use daily in my personal academics.

Outstanding tutor that makes sure you understand the material.

Vahe is an outstanding tutor. I am very grateful to him for making sure I not only understand the chemistry I am dealing with in college, but that I know how to apply the knowledge I have gained to all my class quizzes and tests. Your tutor does not take your exams for you; therefore, an excellent tutor helps one towards comprehension and better application of what one studies. Vahe is very skill
