I enjoy learning and working with students and have done this all my life. I've worked supervising a college writing lab, teaching at the community college level and the high school, middle school, and elementary schools in Fremont and Union City, California. I recently accomplished 22 years of teaching English and history at a local middle school. A real joy I get from working individually with students is seeing their growth in the subjects being tutored.
My experiences tutoring began when I was a high school student and volunteered to tutor English language learners in a freshman class. From there I tutored Latino high school students while a student in college. Later, I was employed to supervise and tutor college students in English at Ohlone College in Fremont. Finally, I have worked as a tutor for Sylvan Learning Center, The Homework Club, and Club Z.
I have a CLAD credential, worked in a college writing lab with the majority of the students I tutored being ESL learners, and taught high school and middle school ESL classes.
I love the language and use it as often as possible. I have taught Spanish at the middle school level and took several Spanish classes in college.
I feel that I am very qualified to work with students in Spanish and Reading, Writing, and English grammar. I have over 30 years of experience in one form or another teaching/tutoring students in these subjects. Working individually with students gives me lots of pleasure and satisfaction. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
