About Kristi

I have been teaching and tutoring elementary school students for the past 15 years and am currently a 4th grade teacher in the area. I specialize in elementary tutoring in all subject areas, specializing in struggling readers and students with learning disabilities.

I believe in positive reinforcement and am knowledgeable in several programs that are especially useful for struggling students and I will work with you to find the best fit for your child. I am trained in Lindamood-Bell's Seeing Stars and Visualizing and Verbalizing programs designed to help children who struggle with reading and comprehension.

I also specialize in teaching upper level reading and writing, scoring near 800 on the verbal portion of the SAT. I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I am qualified to tutor this specific subject due to the classes and experience I have through my teacher credential program. I have taken several graduate level classes in working with students with special needs, including ADD/ADHD, and have fifteen years of experience working with students with ADD/ADHD in both a classroom and physical education setting. Additionally, I have tutored students with ADD/ADHD both as a private tutor as through Lindamood-Bell learning centers.

CBEST

I took the CBEST and passed on the first try with scaled scores in the three categories as follows: 72 English, 73 Math, 74 Writing. Minimum passing scaled score is 41 for individual sections or a total score of 123.

Dyslexia

I am trained in and have tutored over 50 students in the Lindamood-Bell Seeing Stars program, which is one of the most well-regarded programs for student with dyslexia. I am also familiar with the Wilson system, an Orton-Gillingham approach designed for dyslexic students.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am four months away from completing my California multiple subject teaching credential and have over 15 years of experience teaching and tutoring students in this age group. I have also taken and passed all 3 multiple subject CSET examinations required for multiple subject certification.

Elementary Math

I am a credentialed elementary teacher with many hours of additional math training.

Martial Arts

I have taken martial arts for the last 15 years and instructed for the last 12. I hold a 4th degree Black Belt in TaeKwonDo and I am certified through Kukkiwon (the international governimg body of TaeKwonDo) to confer Black Belts. I also hold a second degree Black Belt in Hapkido.

Prealgebra

I am a current teacher with many additional hours of mathematics specific training, including Prealgebra.
